Dr. Frank Strickler, Mayor of Elizabethtown, Hardin County, KY Article / SPRING Issue 1998 By Mary Jo Jones ATHS VP, Mary Jo Jones, tracks down lost Mayor of E-Town From local press and telephone conversation. Dr. Frank Strickler was a well respected Elizabethtown citizen of the early 20th century. Ancestral Trails Vice President, in one of her many hats of local historian, was researching Strickler when she ran across references to him being Mayor. However, he was not listed among E-town's mayors. Jones stated "they've only had mayors for the last 100 or so years and they have pictures of all them in the city hall." All except Strickler that is. Mary Jo delivered a picture of Strickler to city hall and Mayor David Willmouth confirmed the delivery to a local newspaper, but he said he didn't know of any information about Strickler. Strickler died on March 17, 1923. On the day of his funeral businesses closed in his honor. One of three children, Frank Jr., followed his father's medical footsteps to become a surgeon in Louisville. While some direct descendants live in Louisville, only a few distant cousins reside in the Elizabethtown area.
