HELEN CALVERT

 

Death: 1994

Helen Calvert, 106, of 1492 Martin Rd., Princeton, died Thursday, Oct. 27, at 3:18 a.m. at Caldwell County Emergency Room, after a short illness.

Born April 23, 1888, in Caldwell County, a daughter of the late Wilson and Mittie Cantrell, she was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband McClarden Calvert in 1957, a son Marshall Calvert, and a daughter Myrtle Mae Johnson.

 

Funeral services were conducted Oct. 31, at 1 p.m. at Shepard Street Baptist Church with the Rev. Sam Scott officiating.  Burial followed at Crider Cemetery.

 

 

LUTHER CALVERT

 

Death: 1998

Luther Calvert, 74, of Martin Road, Princeton, died Saturday Dec. 26 at 7:20 a.m. at the Caldwell County Hospital Emergency Room following a long illness.  A retired farmer, member of Grooms Chapel Baptist Church, and an ordained Deacon, he was born Feb. 25, 1924, in Caldwell County, a son of the late McClarden Calvert, who died in 1957, and Helen Cantrell Calvert, who died in 1994.

He was preceded in death by a brother Marshall Calvert, and a sister Myrtle Mae Johnson.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, Dec. 31 at Morgan's Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. Samuel Scott officiating, assisted by Rev. Jerry Gray.

Burial will follow in Halleck's Chapel Cemetery.

  MELINDA CALVERT


Melinda Calvert, colored, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mary and Jim Tinsley in Crider community Thursday of last week. "Aunt Melinda" as she was called by both white and colored friends was about nine years old when slavery was abolished, She was owned by the Calvert's, wealthy white people during slavery. She had worked in many white homes and found it a pleasure to work and comfort those in need.
 

She was the mother of two daughters who married ministers, Mary Tinsley and Nannie Martin wife, wife of E. Martin of Madisonville, Ky. who with several grandchildren survive.
 

Funeral services were held at the residence Friday P.M. by her pastor and burial in the colored cemetery nearby was largely attended by white and colored friends who placed many floral designs on her last place of rest.
 

CORDIE FRIAR

 

Death: 2/24/1995

Mrs. Cordie Friar, 91, of the Friar Community in Caldwell County, died Friday, Feb. 24 at 4:45 p.m. at the Caldwell County Emergency Room following a short illness.

A housewife, she attended the Beech Grove General Baptist Church.  She was born June 28, 1903 in Hopkins County, a daughter of the late Nancy Mildred Fryer, who died Mar. 23, 1990.   She was preceded in death by her husband George Friar.

Survivors include three sons.....

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Feb. 28, 1 p.m. at Morgan's Funeral Home, Princeton, with the Rev. James Brasher officiating.

Burial followed at Drennen Cemetery in Caldwell County.

 

NANCY FRYER

 

Death: Mar. 23, 1990

Nancy M. Fryer, age 107, of 1333 West Main Street, died at 7:30 a.m., Friday, Mar. 23, at Caldwell County Hospital after a long illness.

Ms. Fryer was born June 27, 1882, the daughter of the late John and Lucy Edmonds Fryer, of Caldwell County.  She attended Beech Grove General Baptist Church.

Services were held Sunday at 2 p.m at Morgan's Funeral Home with the Rev. James Brasher officiating.  Burial was in the Drennen Cemetery in Caldwell County.
