Allen County School Records

 

The school districts shown 1896-1905 included:

 

School A: Addresses shown are from Scottsville. In 1907 there were two schools for African Americans in Scottsville. One was in the old Ward’s Chapel Methodist Church on Second Street where Beatrice Soules taught. The other was on North Fourth Street.

 

School B: Caney Fork and Maynard. Caney Fork was located on what is now the Browder Tatum farm, earlier the Whitney land.

 

School C: Settle and Greensville. They were located in the Settle community on the Halifax-Settle Road near the Greenville Church in northwest Allen Co.

 

School D: New Roe School in western Allen Co.

 

School E: Holland School on the Joe Siddens farm to the left of Walnut Hill Road in southeastern Allen Co.

 

School F: Trammel and New Hope in northwestern Allen Co.

 

School G: Located at Mt. Aerial and Clare, KY.

 

School H: Meador

 

School I: Likely located on Gainesville Hill.

 

School J: Alonzo, Alexandesr and Chapel Hill.

 

School K: Scottsville

 

In 1909 there were 423 black students.
