Union Chapel Cemetery
Possible photos to choose from:
For sure use the hand-drawn map of the cemetery.
Christopher C. Roberts must use referred to in his story.
View of sign at entrance. This would be a good one, I think.
View from farther away. Taken from the road.
View from southwest corner looking northeast.
Old stones, - Unfortunately I cant remember who they are for. I had written Prunty with Ingram behind on the picture, so feel sure the front one is Clarissa and Jeddiah Prunty, here when the township was formed.
The Union Chapel Cemetery is located in the northwest corner of the northeast quarter of Section 31 in Osborn Township. Driving direction are: go two miles south of Mayfield on Mayfield Road and 1 1/2 miles west.
The inscription on the oldest marker in the Union Chapel Cemetery reads: William Ingram, died June 14, 1881, 51 yrs, 5 days. This is 5 years before the establishment of the cemetery, so possibly the body was moved in from another location. In 1886, land was deeded from Milton and Jane Marquart to the elders of the church for the purposes of a cemetery and church. In 1932 the cemetery ownership was transferred to Osborn Township for maintenance purposes.
The information below is a combination of walking the cemetery, writing information found on the tombstones, and reading the records of Hubert Heasty, sexton of the cemetery.
I used the same format as the Chikaskia Cemetery. Information is given by rows from the west side of the cemetery, reading from north to south.
Since the cemetery map for Union Chapel includes lot numbers, those are written in parenthesis below the stone number.
