"Argonia Cemetery, Dixon Township, R4W, T32, Sec 9, SE corner of SW1/4. Location from Argonia: 1/2E.

This 80 acres of land belongs to the City of Argonia.

A Mr. Coffin deeded 10 acres, 1 lot for each shareholder of stock was given to the Original Town Co. This plat was filed Nov. 4, 1885.

Before the survey, 8 or 10 graves were made. The first burial was a little girl named Jennie Arnold, who was 2 years, 8 months, and 9 days old when she died Oct. 13, 1878, and was buried in lot 455.

The second known burial was a 20 year old woman who died Dec. 21, 1878, and was buried in Lot 240. No burials were found for the year 1879; one in 1880; and three in 1881. One of them was Little Bard Loomis in Lot 504, Born Oct 20, 1881, died Dec. 10, 1881. Two burials were found for 1882. In 1883, on Lot 504, Lillian L. Loomis, born Nov 1879, died April 7, 1883, age 3 years, 5 months.

A list has been made of the known burials of the first 100 years (1878-1978). If the count is correct, there were 1234 marked graves and 124 unmarked or with no death dates.

1970 had the most burials for any one year with 25.

A cemetery association was formed but never incorporated.

By assessments and other methods, money was raised which partly paid for care and maintenance of the grounds.

When Marion F. Sumpter died in Aug. 1922, his will directed 80 acres of land to the Cemetery Association; the income to be used for the upkeep and beautification of the grounds.

In the spring of 1923, Mrs. Charity Cook-Thompson died. Her will added $150.00 to the maintenance fund."
