2013 - Spring Newsletter - 2013

Spring seems to be hiding out somewhere on the back burner this year, can't really blame it…perhaps it's afraid of another dry hot summer chasing it. The Annual meeting was held in November, at the new Museum, your officers are listed above. Work continues by Marilyn Rhoades and Shirley Osborn removing, cleaning and putting the high school pictures back in their frames; this has been no small task, what a great job they are doing. The restored pictures and frames look fantastic, like they were just taken, reality check would be the clothes however; many pictures reflect the latest styles that are resurfacing as newly discovered ways to dress. All of us owe the ladies our appreciation for undertaking such an endeavor.

Work days are the 1st and 3rd Tuesday mornings starting at 9 am, all help is most welcome. We look forward to having you join us. We encourage all of you to join in and get involved with much needed tender loving care, as these museums are operated for the entire community. Items once lost to lack of care, are irreplaceable. Meetings: 3rd Tuesday's November through April, begin at 7:00pm; May through October begins at 7:30pm.

When you next visit Parker, please stop by the "One Stop"; Mike and Sue Page are putting up display cases, they are also planning on a covered display lunch table to hold items of the past, that might make you scratch your head as to what it is; while visiting with friends and neighbors. The Historical Society has been asked to provide items, which we gladly accepted; a way of sharing some of the outstanding items you might discover; upon touring your museums. The first display case contains Sam Brownback's State FFA jacket; also his National Vice President jacket, other articles of his memorabilia from the museum, and a short article of explanation.

Our thanks, to all for your continued support through your donations, memorials and bequests to the museums; we truly appreciate your thoughtfulness and help. Annual membership dues for November 1, 2012 through October 31, 2013 are now due: Single membership: only $5 each per year and each lifetime membership $50. What a bargain, "please join us". The museums: are open to visitors, alumni weekend, during Parker Days, also opened by special request. Persons to contact regarding the museums: Marilyn Rhoades, 913-898-6891; Janice Stahl, 913-898-6662; John Riggs, 913-898-2357; or Barbara Hines, 913-898-2189. ALUMNI WEEKEND: Saturday, April 27th, the museums will be open 1:00pm to 5:30pm, hope to visit and see many of our out-of-Towner's. PARKER DAYS: "The newly re-named celebration" will be held September 21st. Please stop by and join us for a visit, a fun weekend for all of us to look forward to.

AGAIN, we are asking for your assistance…we would like to be able to make copies of pictures of Centerville, Parker, Findley, Goodrich, and Cadmus communities, also any pictures of farming activities in Centerville, Liberty, and Scott townships. A great scavenger hunt for your family looking for lost suitcases, and boxes full of these old pictures that you would share, which would help us complete our past history missing within our Museums. Parker Genealogy has made a special 1st edition booklet with past pictures of our once thriving community, hoping to complete a 2nd booklet. Should you be looking for a lost obituary, they might have a copy.
