2012 - Spring Newsletter - 2012

Spring has arrived early to greet us this year, wow what a pleasant surprise. It gives us a jump start of almost month to lay out our dreams and future plans to be accomplished for this year, extra time that we might spend with our friends and neighbors of the Parker community. The Annual meeting was held in November, at the new Museum, your officers are listed above. Concern was expressed about the tempter and humidity found within the new museum, that the artifacts would not survive, after much discussion, the decision was made to put in air-conditioning for their preservation. A lot of loving time has been spent by Marilyn Rhoades and Shirley Osborn removing, cleaning and putting the high school pictures back in their frames; you have to see them to appreciate the great job done. Work days are the 1st and 3rd Tuesday mornings starting at 9 am, all help is most welcome we look forward to having you join us. We encourage all of you to join in and get involved with much needed tender loving care, as these museums are operated for the entire community. Items once lost to lack of care, are irreplaceable. Meetings: 3rd Tuesday's November through April, begin at 7:00pm; May through October begins at 7:30pm.

Our thanks, to all for your continued support through your donations, memorials and bequests to the museums; we truly appreciate your thoughtfulness and help. Annual membership dues for November 1, 2011 through October 31, 2012 are now due: Single membership: only $5 each per year and each lifetime membership $50. What a bargain, "please join us". The museums: are open to visitors, alumni weekend, during Parker Days, also opened by special request. Persons to contact regarding the museums: Marilyn Rhoades, 913-898-6891; Janice Stahl, 913-898-6662; John Riggs, 913-898-2357; or Barbara Hines, 913-898-2189. PARKER DAYS: "The newly named celebration" will be held September 15th. Please stop by and join us for a visit, a fun weekend for all of us to look forward to.

Parker Genealogy has made a special edition booklet with past pictures of our once thriving community. They are asking that you check your family albums, for pictures that you would share-they look forward to making a 2nd booklet. The 1st edition is now available, contact a member to get your copy. Should you be looking for a lost obituary, they might have a copy.

The museum has received a special request to help locate an old picture of the Twin Springs Methodist Church, located on 2400 Road east of Cadmus Grange Hall. Please check your old family albums.

The Linn County Library District No. 1 has moved into their beautiful new building located on Main Street, here in Parker. They are working on the landscape, and should be setting the flag pole honoring Millie Burk. The library will be open Saturday, April 28th; 1pm to 4pm for all who wish to stop by and enjoy all the items available. They will continue to use the old building for the summer reading program. They also plan to make available to the community as a meeting room for township meetings, and to also provide a meeting room that is not always available to patrons in need of a space.
