2011 - Spring Newsletter - 2011

The Parker Community Historical Society sends a great hug and hello to all our friends, neighbors, and members of the Parker community. The annual meeting was held in November at the new Museum; your officers are listed above. It was noted at the meeting that maintenance, repairs, paint and guttering on the museums need to be addressed, now that spring has sprung and arrived any and all help would be greatly appreciated. The old Black Smith Shop is compromised beyond repair and its removal is going to have to happen in the near future. Work days are the 1st and 3rd Tuesday mornings starting at 8:30; all help is most welcome. We look forward to having you join us. The museums are operated for the community…We encourage all of the community to join and get involved with tender loving care! Meetings: 3rd Tuesdays, November through April, begin at 7:00 pm. May through October, begin at 7:30 pm.

Hope you enjoy this nice clear newsletter. Our old copier died on us and we have a new replacement. How nice it is to have a copier that can be used for the benefit of the Historical Society.

A 'special thank you to Doris Satchell', who organized our food booth for the Parker Harvest Fest, also thank you, to all who helped!

A pictorial quilt of 'ole downtown Parker' was made by Phyllis Mundell and quilted by Jean Nickell was donated to the Historical Society as a money maker; many tickets were sold…thanks to all who supported and helped us. The drawing was held at Parker Harvest Fest, and the winner was Karen (Nickell) Kennedy.

We are sad to report the community has lost twenty of its former high school members, 5 were lifetime members of the society; names are listed on next page. We truly appreciate your thoughtfulness with the memorial contributions and mementos that have been received. Names are placed on the memorial plaque; the 2nd plaque has been started to share with the community.

Parker Genealogy: Sponsoring a silent auction, of a beautiful quilted wall hanging made by Janice Long of the 'ole High School.' Winner will be announced at Alumni banquet, April 30, 2011. They are also looking for pictures to use in a 2nd edition booklet, your originals can be returned. Be sure and check out the 1st edition booklet. There should be some available alumni day at the museum.

Annual membership dues for November 1, 2010 through October 31, 2011 are now due. Single membership only $5 each per year and each lifetime membership $50. What a bargain, "please join us". The museums are open to visitors alumni weekend, during Parker Harvest Fest, also opened by special request.
