We appreciate the many donations received this year from alumni and friends in memory of loved ones who live on in our hearts. Those remembered (since last letter) were Joe Cantrell, Helen Haverfield, Glenn Merrill, Dale & Mildred Lemon, Larry Lee, Lillian Kerr, Herschel Haas, Eugene Prentice, Edgar Webster, and Bob White. Many of these were active members of the Hisiorical Society. Contributions may be sent to the PCHS, Post Office Box 173, Parker, KS 66072.
We would like to encourage members of the community to become involved. Our museums represent the PARKER COMMUNITY, not just Parker school alumni. All help is appreciated. We need workers if we are going to continue to serve our community. "I want to get involved. How can I Help" is music to our ears.
Annual membership dues for November 1, 2010, through October 31, 2011, are now due. What a bargain! Single membership is still $5 each and a lifetime membership is only $50. We currently have 169 life members and 17 annual members.
This summer the Parker Library Summer Reading Program met in the museum. We hope the kids enjoyed spending time in the museums and were able to get an idea of what Parker Community was like "once upon a time".
The buildings are open every month on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday mornings from 9-11 a.m. Anyone willing to help clean or organize the museums are Welcome to come. This would be an excellent time to browse or look into your family history. We are organizing for paticipation in the Parker Harvestfest. The museums are open to visitors during the Fest; we hope to participate in the parade; and we are planning to have a food booth (hamburgers, hotdogs, drinks...). Also see the special reminder about our quilt drawing which will take place at Parker Harvest Fest, SEPTEMBER 1, 2010.
And if you have read this far in this newsletter, you know the main theme is PLEASE, THANK YOU, COME and HELP! We know there are creative, enthusiastic neighbors (workers?) out there and we're asking you to step forward and contribute however you can.
There will be no work days nor monthly meeting held in December.
OUR FUND RAISER
We are drawing for a quilt at Parker Harvest Fest on September 18, 2010. It will be on display at Museum #2 all Day. Drawing will be no earlier
than 5 p.m. The quilt was made by Phyllis Mundell and quilted by Jean Nickell. It contains 64 pictures of Parker "once upon a time".
Donation is $1 each ticket or 6 tickets for $5.
You may send your donation to Marilyn Rhoades at 20334 Gireau Rd., Parker, Kansas 66072 or Contact John & Osee Riggs, Barb, Hines, Shirley Osborn, or Janice Stahl.
Thanks to everyone who has contributed this year to the Historical Society. We truly appreciate all donations of time, material, and funds. It takes all kinds of service to keep us moving forward.
