2008 - Spring Newsletter - 2008

On November 20th, 2007 the Annual Meeting of the Parker Community Historical Society Board of Directors was held in the New Museum, 207 W Main, Parker, Kansas. Board of Directors` members are Helenn Haverfield, Society Vice-President; Osee Riggs, Society Recorder; Shirley Osborn, Society Reporter; Wayne Osborn, Kenneth Prentice, Charles Hampton, Sr., plus Society officers are John Riggs, President, Marilyn Rhoades, Treasurer; and Barbara Hines, Secretary. John Riggs appointed the Building Committee consisting of Glenn Kerr, Shirley Osborn, and Janice Stahl, Marilyn Rhoades and John Riggs.

We work (whoever can) at the museums each month on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday. We decided to work in the afternoons from 1-3 p.m. through April and back to mornings 8:30-10:30 from May through October. Our monthly meetings are held on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at the new museum. Meetings start at 7 p.m. November through April and at 7:30 p.m. the months of May through October. We encourage all who can to join us and participate when possible.

If your membership dues have not been paid for the fiscal year November 1, 2007 through October 31, 2008, they are due. Dues have not increased with the "cost of living" and are still a great bargain at $5 for single members and $50 each for lifetime memherships.

PCHS is planning for the Parker Rural High School Alumni Banquet, which is April 26 at 6 p.m. The MUSEUMS will be open from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. to visitors. Please come by and visit with family and friends... reminisce and recollect, share a story or two of the good times past. The elementary school will be open at 4 p.m. preceding the banquet.

The MUSEUMS may also be opened by special request by contacting John Riggs, President (913-898-2337); Marilyn Rhoades, Treasurer (913-898-6891), or Barbara Hines, Secretary (913-898-2189).

Last year our money-making projects were a NO BAKE bake sale held at the Elementary School, (before and after the banquet). We offered refreshments (pop, water, and coffee) cookies and cinnamon rolls at Parker Harvest-Fest. These projects brought some relief to our Treasury. We also have a Memorial Plaque, which will be on display at the museum and at the banquet you may designate a memorial donation. If you will not be attending the banquet you may mail your donations to our PO Rox 173.

We have found un-welcomed guests (termites) in our buildings. The exterminator promises to relieve us of those pests, however, we are in dire need of additional funds, any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you to those who have previouslv donated. Please continue to advise us of any change of address that occurs between newsletters.

Getting corrected addresses from the post office is expensive and delays receipt of the mail. Continue to notify Marilyn (Hampton) Rhoades at 913-898-6891 or Janice (Cady) Stahl at 913-898-6662 of address corrections and names and dates of deceased alumni and members.

The Alumni Association is again accepting applications for scholarships. Eligibility is open to anyone who is related to a PRHS graduate and is a high school senior or returning college student. Applications may be obtained from Janice (Cady) Stahl at 913-898-6662 or Steve Kinder at 913-898-6465. Applications must he returned by April 1st.

Following is a list of deceased PRHS Alumni since the Spring Newsletter of 2007. Each one is missed by families, friends, classmates, and fellow alumni. If you are aware of anyone we have missed, please let us know.
