2008 - Fall Newsletter - 2008

The Parker Community Historical Society sends Greetings to all our friends, neighbors, and members of the Parker area. Another year has somehow rushed by and it is time to prepare for the ANNUAL MEETING, which will be held on Tuesday, November 18, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. at Museum #2, 207 West Main, Parker, Kansas. At this meeting a new Board of Directors and officers are elected, projects for the coming year will be discussed as well as any other business presented to the board. Immediately following the Board of Directors' meeting, the regular monthly meeting will be held. Officers for 2009 will be elected at that time. Meetings 3rd Tuesdays, November through April begin at 7:00 p.m. May through October begin at 7:30 p.m.

We are sad to report we have lost more lifetime members and the Parker Community will miss them also. Their names will be listed in the Spring Newsletter. Memorial contributions in their names have been made to the historical society. We truly appreciate your thoughtfulness and remembrances in those person's names and the help you are giving to the museums and the mementos a viable place that you can share with future generations. We will send acknowledgements to the families so that they might know of your contribution, and their name will be placed on the memorial plaque.

These museums are operated for the PARKER COMMUNITY, not just for the Parker school alumni. We are asking and encourage members and perspective members living in the Parker area that you please take the time to come to the museums, look around, and enjoy. What an interesting place to bring your children and grandchildren...DO IT SOON!! There are stories to be shared with some of our members that will truly delight the children. Please do get involved. ALL HELP would be greatly appreciated. The blacksmith shop is in need of some loving care by all who can help us put it back in order for all to enjoy. There are many tools there and the stories that they might bring forth would be amazement. HELP!! We are missing a County Cemetery Book. Would the borrower please return it.

We continue to have workdays on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday mornings starting at 8:30. All help is most welcome we look forward to having you join us. GOOD NEWS, thanks for your donations, with your help we were able to rid all the buildings of the termites, the buggers seemed to be working overtime on the buildings. Many treasures and stories await your presence. Check out the one room schoolhouse, the blacksmith shop and especially the antiques, more are being added all the time...imagine living day to day using those 1st class items of yesteryear. How lucky we all are to have the use of all the modern conveniences found in our homes.

Annual membership dues for November 1, 2008 through October 31, 2009, are now due. Single membership only $5.00 each per year and each lifetime membership is $50.
