We are sad to report that we have lost 16 lifetime members and the Parker Community will miss them also. Memorial contributions in their names have been made to the historical society. We truly appreciate your thoughtfulness and remembrances in these person's names and the help you are giving in making these museums and mementos a viable place that you can proudly share with future generations. We will send acknowledgments to the families so that they might know of your contribution given.
These museums are in the interest of the PARKER COMMUNITY, not just for the Parker school alumni. We would encourage members and perspective members living in the Parker area to get involved. All help would be greatly appreciated. More Workers are needed to pull this off, so that all of us may continue to proudly serve our community.
We continue to have workdays on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday mornings starting at 8:30. All help is most welcome, we look forward to having you join us. Many treasures and stories await your presence. Check out the one room Schoolhouse, the blacksmith shop, and especially the antiques..imagine living day to day and using those items, they were the 1st class items of their times. How lucky we all are now with all the modern conveniences found in our homes.
The museums are open to visitors alumni weekend and during Parker Harvest Fest, many stopped by to visit and swap stories. The children enjoyed visiting and learning from Helen Haverfield. We will also open by special request. Persons to contact regarding the museums are Marilyn Rhoades, 913-898-6891, Janice Stahl 913-898-6662 or John Riggs, 913-898-2337.
Annual membership dues for November 1, 2007, through October 31, 2008, are now due. Single membership is only $5.00 each per year and each lifetime membership is $50.00. We currently have 186 life members and 20 annual members. This is a great Bargain! We look forward to having you join us.
We have had all the buildings inspected for termites, which have been found in all four buildings, the treatment cost is $2,600.00. We are in dire need of donations, as we do not have the funds available for the treatments needed to preserve these buildings.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed this year to the Historical Society. We truly appreciate all donations of time, materials, and Funds. Come join in and have fun with us.
