2005 - Fall Newsletter - 2005

We are nearing the close of another fiscal year of PCHS and preparing for the ANNUAL meeting, which will be held on Tuesday, November 15, at 7:30 pm. at the Museum #2, 207 West Main, Parker, Kansas. At that time new Board of Directors officers will be elected. Projects for 2006 will be discussed as well as any other business presented to the board. Immediately following the Board of Directors' meeting will be the regular monthly meeting. Officers for 2006 will be elected.

Annual membership dues for November 1, 2005, to October 31, 2006, are now due. Single membership is $5.00 each and a Lifetime membership is $50.00. Checks may be made payable to PCHS. Since the beginning of Parker Community Historical Society twenty-five years ago in November 1980, we have registered 267 Lifetime Members. Over the years we have had 66 deceased members. November 1, 2004, to October 31, 2005, we recorded 21 single members.

The museums were open throughout the year for workdays held the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month starting at 8:30 am. You are all welcome and encouraged to help at these workdays. It is fun, interesting fellowship, and there is always something to do. (There will be no monthly meeting or workdays held in December.)

We were also open on Alumni weekend and during Parker Harvest Fest as well as by special request. Persons to contact regarding opening are Cheryl Erwin, 913-898-6891; John Riggs, 913-898-2337; or Eugene & Marjorie Prentice, 913-898-3201.

Replacement of the roof on the blacksmith's shop is scheduled to begin shortly after November 1. Getting the shop ready for public viewing will be a big future project.

The Alumni committee is seeking input regarding changing the annual date for the Alumni Banquet. They are considering changing the banquet date to the 4th Saturday of April. The rationale is that it is cooler and avoids conflict with graduations or other school end activities. Respond to Janice Stahl, 8252 W. 2000 Road, Parker, KS 66072 to express agreement or concerns. Please include your graduation year.

Thank you to everyone who has donated or loaned items to the museum this year. We have had items donated or loaned for the schoolhouse, new and old museums and all are appreciated. We also appreciate the workers who have given time and energy to making the museums a living history of Parker past.
