2004 - Spring Newsletter - 2004

The Annual Meeting of the Board of Directors for the Parker Community Historical Society was held on November 18, 2003 at the new museum, 207 West Main, Parker, KS. The Board for this fiscal year are: Society Vice-President, Helen Haverfield; Society Recorder, Osee Riggs; Society Reporter, Shirley Osborn; Eugene Prentice; Wayne Osborn; Kenneth Prentice; and Janice Stahl, plus Society Officers: John Riggs, President; Velda Lemon, Secretary; and Cheryl Erwin, Treasurer.

The P.C.H.S. meets at 7:30 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month, except December. The meetings are held at 207 W Main, Parker. Beginning on April 6, the members of PCHS are working the 1st and 3rd Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. trying to sort thru items that have been stored for awhile. If your morning is free, your help would be greatly appreciated.

MEMBERSHIP DUES for the fiscal year November 1, 2003 thru October 31, 2004 are $5.00 for SINGLE Members and $50.00 for a LIFE- TIME. NOW IS THE TIME TO SEND YOUR MEMBERSHIP DUES.

Alumni celebration time will soon be here. The MUSEUM will be open on Alumni Saturday, May 15, at 10:00 a.m. and close at approximately 5:00 p.m. All alumni and friends of the community are invited to visit.

The Class of 1934 will meet at the 1st museum building, 211 W. Main at 2:00 p.m. for their 70th year reunion.

The PARKER ALUMNI ASSOCIATION is once again offering two scholarships of $300. each, plus there is a $300. scholarship available for Agricultural related student. Applicants may be freshmen or returning college students. Following is the "GUIDELINES FOR PRHS SCHOLARSHIPS" to be completed by the applicant and returned by May 1 to: PARKER ALUMNI ASSOCIATION, c/o STEVE KINDER, 17245 Evangeline RD., PARKER, KS 66072.

Among items donated or loaned to the Museum are: 1950's stove and refrigerator, an Ironrite ironer, many pictures, maps of the Parker Waterworks System, framed calligraphy of Psalm 1, a 2004 calendar, Centerville Post Office Charter, a plaque, spittoon, and Gregg shorthand books. Thanks to all who contributed.

The deceased list of PRHS Alumni since the 2003 Spring News letter continues to mount. We will miss each and everyone of them. If you are aware of additional alumni not listed, please advise Cheryl Erwin @913-898-6891 or Janice Stahl @ 913-898-6662.
