2002 - Spring Newsletter - 2002

The Annual Meeting of the Parker Community Historical was held on Novenber 20, 2001, at 207 West Main, Parker, Kansas. Officers for this fiscal year are: John Riggs, President; Velda Lemon, Secretary; Cheryl Erwin, Treasurer. Board of Directors consist of: Helen Haverfield, Society Vice-President; Osee Riggs, Society Recorder; Shirley Osborn, Society Reporter; Glenn Merrill, Kenneth Prentice, Wayne Osborn, Janice Stahl.

If your Membership Dues for Nov 1. 2001 thru Set. 31, 2002 have not been paid, then now is the time. Dues for one year for individual is $5.00 each and Lifetime Membership is available for $50.00 each.

PCHS is very appreciative of the monetary response to the roof repair project for the back half of the Old Museum. THIS PROJECT HAS BEEN COMPLETED and it much improves the building. Now we strive to continue the roofing on the front half. Donations are accepted and appreciated.

The Society will be having a fund raising Community Breakfast at the Parker United Methodist Church, April 20, 2002, 7 - 9:30 a.m. wlth Free Will donation. Come join us for good food and hospitality time with neighbors and friends.

Another project, in the works to raise funds, is a Wall Display Quilt Rack. Tickets will be available from the officers and board members for a donation of $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00. Tickets will be available prior to tne alumni banquet. Or if you choose, by mail. Send a check to the address above and a ticket will be placed in the drawing box. This is a community project, NOT just for alumni. The drawing, however, will take place at the banquet following the Quilt drawing.

The museums will be open on Alumni Day, May 18, 2002, from 10 am to 5 pm. We invite everyone to stop by, especially if you've not been in.

Once again the PARKER ALUMNI ASSOCIATION will be offering two scholarships of $300.00 each. Following is a "GUIDELINE FOR THE PRHS SCHOLARSHIPS" to be completed by the applicant:

Goals: major and future plans ----- College you will attend
Relationship to Parker Alumni with address and phone number

Funds will be paid upon proof of enrollment in college. The deadline for getting the information to the Parker Alumni Association, c/o- Steve Kinder, 17245 Evangeline Rd, Parker KS 66072 is May 3, 2002.
