2001 - Fall Newsletter - 2001

The annual meeting of the Parker Community Historical Society will be held on Tuesday, November 20, 2001, at 7:30 p.m., 207 West Main, Parker, Kansas. Election of Board of Directors and Society officers will be held. All Interested parties are welcomed.

Monthly meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month 7:30 p.m., 207 West Main, except for the month of December in which there is no meeting.

The 2001-2002 membership dues are due. As of the meeting of July 17, 2001, the by-laws of the Parker Community Historical Society were amended to reflect a change in dues rates. Family membership has been eliminated. SINGLE MEMBERSHIP is $5.00 each and LIFETIME MEMBERSHIP is now $50.00 each. This is the first increase in membership dues since P.C.H.S. was established twenty-one years ago.

The Society deeply appreciates the response to our letter of July 24, 2001, for our roofing project. To date we have received approximately $2000.00 for the roof and added twenty-five new lifetime Members. A great-great-great big THANK YOU!

Repairs have not yet begun. Obtaining a contractor has proved to be a difficult task. Any references or suggestions would be welcomed. Please contact John Riggs 913-898-2337 or Cheryl Erwin 913-898-6891 if you can be of assistance in getting a contractor. This project needs immediate attention.

Several new items have been donated or loaned to the museum since the Spring Newsletter. Everything is appreciated and will help keep the history of Parker and neighboring communities alive for the future.

The museums were open on Alumni Saturday, May 19, Memorial Day weekend May 27 and 28, and Parker Harvest Fest September 19. There was 100 registered visitors. Several more visited, but failed to sign the Guest Book.

Five of the six daughters of Theodore Bay, Class of '36, were visiting the Parker Community on July 27 and toured the museum. Each girl donated a small plastic medicine bottle filled with pennies in memory of their Grandmother Hay who gave them, as children, 'pennies in a bottle' to spend on candy 'up-town' in Parker.

We are still interested in obtaining more e-mail addresses. Please send to "[email protected] " or "[email protected]" (Wayne and Shirley Osborn).

Thanks to Kenneth Prentice Class of '60, Parker Community Historical Society has its own web-site. To reach the web-page log onto "https://sites.rootsweb.com/~kspchs". Additional items are being added as we go along.
