Dues for 1995 can still be paid. The dues are $2.50 annually for a single membership, $4.00 annually for a married couple, or $35.00 for a lifetime single membership.
The Parker Rural High School Alumni Banquet will be held on May 20, 1995. The Alumni Board has asked us to include in our newsletter that there will be 1995 scholarship awards made at the banquet. If you would like to nominate a person for the scholarships, your reasons for the nomination should be sent to Marion Barnett, RR #1. Box 99, Parker, Kansas 66072 or to Thelma Troutman, 1019 E. Wea, Paola. Kansas 66071. The board has determined that the awards will be in the same amounts as in previous years and an award to a female student and a male student will be made as usual. The deadline for the applications is May 10, 1995. The banquet will be held at the Parker Elementary School at 6:00 P.M.
We will have the Museum open on Saturday, May 20 and on Memorial weekend Saturday May 27. An all out effort will be made to have the doors open for the convenience of all visitors. If you are here at a different day, please feel free to call one of the above officers who will gladly open the Museum.
Several donations and loans have been made since the fall newsletter. Two chairs that date to the late 1800's have been loaned and several pictures of people from the area as well as stories of events have been received. Also several obituaries which we did not have were received. The stories of the towns of Goodrich and Findley (Dunley) as remembered by Tom Bowman have been typed and put in folders and are now available at the Museum.
Parker Day will be on the third Saturday of July again this year. The Historical Society is celebrating its 15th year of existence in 1995, so we hope to participate more in the Parker Day activities. Plans are now being made as to the extent of that participation.
We were very fortunate to obtain display cabinets and an old cash register from the "Larry Farm Supply" sale. The display cabinets and perhaps the cash register were a part of the old Braker Lumber yard that was in Parker several years ago.
