Mt. Olive Cemetery

MOUNT OLIVE CHURCH AND CEMETERY - The records indicate that John G. Palmer and Matilda Palmer deeded a tract of land consisting of a part of the SE 1/4 SEC 15, TWSP 3S, R21W to the trustees of the M. E. Church on Jan. 11, 1888. The church is no longer there, but the cemetery which was located in the churchyard remains.

MOUNT OLIVE CEMETERY - Mt. Olive Cemetery is located (from the junction of Highways 36 and 60) one mile east, three miles south, and one-half mile west. The first grave was dug in the late 1800s. This little two acre cemetery and one-time church yard was the final resting place for many of our ancestors. Many soldiers were buried here and each Memorial Day a flag is placed at their grave by the Almena American Legion. The Grant 4-H Eagles took this cemetery as a community project at one time and planted trees at the cemetery. The Grant 4-H Club also had a baseball team (which were champions) and often, after ball practice held in Ira Mulders pasture, the club members would haul water in cream cans from Bill Campbells to water the little cedar trees.

Ira Mulder set the first tree out showing the club members how it should be done. The cemetery was cared for many years by Mr. and Mrs. Ernie Engelhardt.

Blue text indicates some evidence that the person is buried in this cemetery without a headstone.
