Grant Arnold Dies.
Death Comes to Well Known Farmer Suddenly Tuesday.

Grant ARNOLD, well known farmer, 55 years of age, died at his home northeast of Holton Tuesday night after a short illness. His death resulted from heart trouble that developed rather suddenly. A few week ago he suffered an injury when a horse stepped on his foot. He had been recovering nicely from that, but the last few days complained of heart trouble. The malady became acute and death came before his family and friends were aware of a serious condition.
Mr. Arnold leaves a wife and five children who have the keenest sympathy of the entire community. Grant Arnold was regarded one of our finest citizens.

The funeral will be held from the Evangelical church Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock with burial in the Holton cemetery.

Arnold
Grant ARNOLD was born at the old Arnold home east of Holton, October 7, 1868. It was in this same neighborhood that he grew up, attended school and lived his entire life.

December 14, 1892, he was united in marriage with Miss Lena KAUL. This union, which proved a happy one, continued for 30 years, less one day. Their entire married life was spent on the present home site. Here their home was established; here their sons and daughters were reared; her they toiled and wrought out their fortunes together.
Ten years ago, Mr. Arnold definitely entered the Christian life, united with the Evangelical church and remained an honored and valued member to the end.

About three weeks ago he suffered an injury which seemed of no great consequence, but which apparently gave rise to a complication which proved fatal. Three days prior to his death his condition became serious and continued so until Tuesday night when it became evident that the end was near. At 3 o'clock, Wednesday morning, December 13, he fell asleep. His age was 54 years, 2 months and 6 days.

In his going, the home loses a devoted husband and father; the church, a strong supporter; the community a high-minded citizen and a good neighbor. His gentlemanly bearing, his quiet Christian influence, his freiendship and neighborliness will continue as a benediction among all who knew him.

He is survived by his widow, three sons, two daughters, two grandsons, two brothers, and two sisters.
The service was held Friday afternoon at the Evangelical church and was in charge of the pastor, Rev. G.F. Barthel, assisted by Rev. F.A. Muneke. A quartette furnished appropriate selections will rendered. The unusual attendance bore testimony to the universal respect for the deceased. Interment was made in Holton cemetery.

Frances E. (Newmaker) Heath

Mrs. Frances E. Heath Death
On January 27, 1927, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H. L. Hart, in this city, with whom she reside for the part five years, Mrs. France Eliza Heath passed away.

Frances Eliza Newmaker was born in Mercer, Pennsylvania on April 15,  1852. At an early age gave her heart in the master and united with the Baptist church retaining her membership until her death, had gladly working in all organization for good wherever she lived.

On January 1, 1869, she was united in marriage with Jerome J. Heath, and with him came to Kansas forty seven years age with two children.  They located near Adams Peak in the county where four children were born.
Mrs. Heath met the privations and joys of life common to the early settlers and in that great company of pioneers there was on woman who gave more freely of her time and talents than the deceased. She was a woman of culture and refinement. The kind we boast as true American women, and aided in all movements to make men and women better and happier. She met the sorrows of life nobly and gave comfort and cheer and encouragement to all she met.

Her husband, and infant child and two sons, Charles Heath and Earl Heath preceded her to the other world. For such charters as Mrs. Heath we believe the other world will hold few surprises for her faith was ever sure and certain.

She leaves surviving her a son, Jerome A. Heath, of Harrison, Arkansas and two daughters, Mrs. E. M. White of Olsburg, Kansas, and Mrs. H. L. Hart of Westmoreland, Kansas, a number of children and grandchildren and a great circle of loving and admiring friends.

The funeral services were held at nine a.m. Saturday morning at the home of Mrs. Heath’s daughter, Mrs. H.L. Hart, where she had been living for some years. The services were conducted by Rev. W.E. Burdette, pastor of the M.E. church. The body was taken to Ottawa for burial and was accompanied by H. L. Hart, and family, Rev. Burdette, Mrs. E.C. Cree, Mrs. Fred Grutzmacher, and Cleve Zabel. The services at the cemetery were conducted by Dr. A.W. Elliot, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Ottawa, Mrs. Heath being a member of that church. Dr. Elliot was her pastor while she lived in Ottawa.

I.C. Myers

I.C. Myers Dead.
The sad intelligence was given out early Monday morning that the grim reaper had called that citizen of sterling worth, I.C. Myers home. He passed the portals of that undiscovered country at an early hour in the day after 73 years of fighting the battle of life. Honored and respected by all who knew him he lived so near to nature that when called to his Maker he was found duly prepared and worthy.
Born in Virginia he early moved to the west and one of the pioneers of this section. He served with distinction and valor during the rebellion. The esteem in which he was held among neighbors is testified by his repeated selection to offices of honor and trust, at the time of his death he being trustee for Cedar township. Outspoken and honest there was never any question as to what Rene Myers would do if he understood it.
The funeral was held at the Cedar Valley church Tuesday at 11 o'clock and was attended by a throng of friends and neighbors desirous of offering a parting tribute to a life so grand and complete. Interment was made in the Coleman cemetery where under the clods of mother earth sleeps the clay of one all who knew him loved, honored and respected. The bereaved ones have the sincere sympathy of all and their grief is shared by all.

Mary Edna Nuzman Olds

Mary Edna Nuzman was born at Soldier, Jackson Co. Kans., Nov., 20th 1879 and died June 2, 1906, aged 27 years, 6 months and twelve days. She was the oldest daughter of Lewis Nuzman, and sister of Arthur Nuzman; her mother died when she was a child. In her girlhood days she united with the M. E. church of which she was still a member. In May, 1903, she was married to John E. Olds who with one little daughter (Merle Olds Anders) is left to mourn her loss. Her sickness was short, only one week, and her death came as a great shock to her family and friends. The funeral services were held Saturday ;evening at 5 o'clock from the M. E. church, Rev. Rousey conducting the services. The pall bearers were six young ladies dressed in white with black hats and gloves. The casket was covered with flowers and all that was mortal was followed by an unusually large number of relatives and friends to whom Edna was held in high esteem. Hers was one of those kindly dispositions that always keep their friends. For the bereaved ones sympathy is expressed by all.

Robert Alexander Plumb

Obituary from

Robert Alexander Plumb was born in Lawrence County, Missouri, Mary 29, 1846, and died at his home near Circleville, Kan., April 24, 1919, aged 73 years, 10 months and 25 days. He grew to manhood in Missouri and in the spring of the trying days of 1863, he sought a new home on the free plains of Kansas, locating at Circleville. He afterwards moved to Holton and lived here for ten years. He was married to Nancy L. McCans on Jan. 19, 1868. To this union were born six children, Charles N., who died in infancy; Max E., who dies at 7 years of age; C. Clinton, of near Circleville; Fred E., who dies at the age of 24; Margaret Abilene, now of Horton, and Robert A., still at the home farm. their mother dies June 6, 1889. On Sept. 22, 1891, he was married to Anna Irby. To this union were born two children, both dying in infancy. On Feb. 8, 1911, she preceded him to the other world, leaving a host of friends earned by a beautiful Christian life of service. On Nov. 26, 1912, he married Hattie Grier, of Seneca, Kan. When a boy he united with the Methodist church and remained in close relation all his life, filling with credit every duty assigned him. In 1881 he bought and located on the farm one-half mile west of the Pea Ridge church, and his life and family have been useful and active in all social and church affairs. Race prejudice was never know in his case, as the real man within overshadowed the outward appearance. He leaves three children and eight grandchildren to call him blessed. His funeral was conducted by his former pastor, M.G. Hamm, assisted by his present pastor, Rev. Franks, of Circleville. The many beautiful floral tributes faintly hinted as the love and esteem in which he was held. He was laid to rest in the Holton cemetery and will long be remembered as one of the best citizens and neighbors of the community in which he lived. Deep sympathy and real sorrow are expressed at his loss. M.G.H.

Two years ago last fall Mr. Webb returned to Kansas and settled near his former home. Last October he moved to the Kickapoo reservation near Whiting. About three years ago he embraced religion and spent the closing years of his life in faithful service for his master, never tiring of speaking words of praise and in trying to lead a better life. Mr. Webb has suffered much the past two years with cancer of the face, and during that time was never known to utter a word of complaint. He bore his suffering with true Christian faith and patience, for he often said, "Its the Lords will that I suffer this, and his will be done not mine, I am ready to go".
February 3, 1911 the summons came and he passed peacefully to rest, after having called his little son to his bed side telling him to "be a good little boy, and be good to Momma", and assuring his family and friends that he loved them all, and appreciated the kindness and help given to him during his long and painful illness. The funeral was held in the M.E. Church in Netawaka, February 4, at 1:30 pm conducted by the pastor, Rev.Landin, who preached a very appropriate sermon from the text, "The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want". The six sons acted as pall bearers and the remains were laid to rest in the Netawaka cemetery.
