Life's Fever O'er.

Thursday at three o'clock died the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Yedden, of summer complaint. The little fellow was a winsome child and it was hard indeed for the parents to give him up. They, however, seek consolation in the belief that he rests happily in the land where the cares and troubles of earthly existence are not known and the temptations of this life are not to be met with. The funeral services were held this afternoon from the house, West 7th street. Abilene Reflector, Aug. 2, 1888)

A SAD ACCIDENT.
A Little Child Drinks a Solution of Morphine and Dies Almost Instantly.

Last week there took place an accident by which a little two-years-old child lost its life. Dr. D. P. Young, the veterinary surgeon, returned to his home on Spruce street about five o'clock from a trip into the country where he had been attending a sick horse. He had a solution of morphine, perhaps a teaspoonful of the deadly drug being dissolved, in a teacup on the dining room table. He left the cup standing there while he put away his surgical instruments and when he returned he was horrified to see his little boy Austin drinking the poison. Medical aid was at once summoned and every thing that human power could do was done in the effort to save the little fellow's life. All was in vain and about two hours later the sufferer sank into the arms of death.

Austin was a cheery, bright child and the bereaved father and mother are almost heartbroken at the loss, the more so on account of the accident by which he lost his life. Their many friends will extend to them the most sincere sympathy in their sorrow. (Abilene Weekly Reflector, Sep. 27, 1888)

While Bathing in the Railroad Reservoir Ambrose Ziegler Loses His Life; The Body Recovered. Special to the Reflector

Manchester, Kas., June 17: Yesterday afternoon Ambrose Ziegler, C. Higgins and J. Simpson went bathing in the railroad reservoir, northeast of the city. After being in the water for half an hour or more Ziegler attempted to swim across the dam. On the way he was attacked by a cramp and sank in 12 feet of water. The accident occurred about 5 o'clock and though the alarm was at once given and every effort was made to recover the body, it was 9 p. m. before it could be found and taken from the water. Ziegler was a mail carrier between this place and Poplar Hill, was well known and highly respected, and was about 17 years old.
