Dean Underhill, 86, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2006, at Abilene; born July 8, 1920; son of John A. and Pearl (Scripter) Underhill; married Glenna Baer on June 6, 1944; survivors include two daughters, Joetta Nagely of Abilene and Glenda Pfannenstiel of Inman; and five grandchildren; preceded in death by his wife on Dec. 5, 1997; one brother, Morris Underhill; and one sister, Lois Crist; burial in the Livingston (Union) Cemetery north of Abilene

Erline Eva Vahsholtz, 72 and a lifelong resident of Dickinson County, died Sept. 14, 2003 in Wichita; as born Aug. 15, 1931, north of Herington to Walter and Helena Krause Albrecht; married Herbert K. Vahsholtz on April 20, 1952, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Shady Brook. He preceded her in death on April 27, 1998. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Laverne Albrecht; survived by two daughters, Nancy Rawson and husband Kent of Lindsborg, and Kelli Olson and husband Ryan of Abilene; three sons, Russell Vahsholtz of Woodbine, Vonley Vahsholtz of Westminster, Colo., and Keith Vahsholtz and wife Joni of Hope.; a brother, LeRoy Albrecht of Woodbine; a sister, Carol Florea of Quincy, Ill.; and six grandchildren; burial in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery (abstract Junction City Daily Union)

News reached our city today of the death of Dr. William T. Vail at the residence in Detroit, Kansas, at 8 o'clock this morning, after an illness of nineteen days. Mr. Vail has been a resident of Detroit for about two years, and has proved a good citizen. He is the brother of E. S. Vail and Miss Mary Vail, both of Detroit. He leaves one daughter, Miss Hettie G. Vail. He was a man of about 70 years old, a respected citizen and well liked by all. His surviving relatives have the sympathy of their many friends. The date for the funeral has not yet been set. H. S. Vandamark, aged about 30 years, died last Sunday morning of consumption. He was confined to his home from July to the day of his release by death. His funeral services, conducted by Elders Hoggs and McCurdy, were held in the United Brethren church on Monday and the remains were interred in the city cemetery. The deceased leaves a wife and two children to mourn their loss, and a bereaved father and mother grieve over the departure of a loving son. (Abilene Reflector, Sept. 20, 1883)

Mr. B. W. Vanscoyoc, aged 67 years, 1 month and 19 days, died of spinal affliction at his home in Cheever township last Sunday evening, and his remains were followed to the cemetery on Tuesday, by a large number of friends and neighbors with whom he stood decidedly high. Lawrence C. Veerhusen, 84, died Tuesday, July 9, 2002, at Salina; born Dec. 31, 1917, southeast of Herington, the son of Carsey O. and Mae A. Hills Veerhusen; married Meta I. Vahsholtz on July 24, 1940, at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Shady Brook. She died Aug. 12, 2000. He also was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Linda Mae Veerhusen, in 1947; survived by two daughters, Betty Long, Spring, Texas, and Donna Goodman, Lee's Summit, Mo.; a son, Larry Veerhusen, Herington; two sisters, Viola Furman, Council Grove, and Ethelmae Hennig, Portland, Ore.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; burial in Sunset Hill Cemetery in Herington (abstract Topeka Captial Journal)

Meta I. Veerhusen, 84, died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000, at Herington; born Oct. 27, 1915, near Woodbine, to Edward and Ida Weber Vahsholtz; married Lawrence C. Veerhusen on July 24, 1940, in Shady Brook near Herington and he survives. Maudie Marie Vinduska, 80, died Thursday, Aug. 29, 2002, at Marion; born March 4, 1922, in Elmo in Dickinson County, to Hugo and Ollie Longhofer Weishaar; married James Vinduska on Nov. 28, 1945, in Elmo. He died March 31, 1999; survived by two sons, Steve Vinduska and Tim Vinduska, both in El Dorado; two daughters, Sandy Carlson, Burdick, and Jody Roberts, Topeka; two brothers, James Weishaar, Abilene, and Marvin Weishaar, Liberty, Mo.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; burial in St. John Catholic Cemetery in the Pilsen community north of Marion (abstract Topeka Capital Journal)

Vinson, Bertha died Oct, 28, 1984 in Abilene; born May 11, 1913 at Strawn City to Walter and Emma (Crouch) Smith, and moved to the Buckeye Community as a child; married Roy Vinson on Aug. 25, 1931 and they farmed in the Buckeye Community. In later years they resided at 600 N.W. Sixth in Abilene. Preceded in death by her husband and a son, Eddie, omn 1964; survived by a son, Kenneth Vinson of Abilene; a brother, Fred Smith of Davis, CA, a sister Anna Campbell of Dover Kansas. Vinson, Joshua H. was born at Cornwallis, England, November 4, 1849. He came to American at the age of 5 years, and has been a member of the Methodist church ever since he was 26 years old. He married Miss Martha Mefford, October 18, 1874, and to them were born six daughters and two sons. He came to Abilene in November 1895 and resided here until the time of his death. Vinson, Roy died Sept. 27, 1978 at Herington; born June 10, 1894 at Jennings, the son of Joshua and Martha (Mefford) Vinson; married Aug. 25, 1931 to Bertha Smith; farmed north of Detroit until 1955, when they moved to Abilene; preceded in death by a son, Eddie, in 1964, and six sisters and one brother; survived by his wife, a son Kenneth of Abilene, six grandchildren, two sisters, Emma Eye of Abilene and Pearl Holeman of OKC. William "Bill" Visser, 93, Herington, died Tuesday, May 22, 2001, at his home; born March 16, 1908, in Riley County, the son of John and Bertha Reiniker Visser; married Esther E. Avery on Dec. 16, 1936, in Riley. She died Feb. 13, 1994; survived by two sons, Earl Visser, Lincoln, Neb., and Richard Visser, Herington; a sister, Marjorie Hartner, Manhattan; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; burial in Riley Cemetery (abstract Topeka Capital Journal)
