Death of Mrs. G. R. Lamb

Friday afternoon Mrs. Green Lamb, living in Enterprise, passed quietly away from this life into the great hereafter. Mrs. Lamb has been ill for some time but only recently was considered to be in danger. She, as well as her husband, has long been a prominent resident of this county and they have many friends. who will be sorrowful indeed over the decease of the loved one. Five children, three girls and two boys, the youngest five years old, mourn the loss ot the mother who has watched over and cared for them. The funeral services were held at the home Sunday afternoon at 1 o'clock. A number from this city were in attendance. (Abilene Reflector, April 11, 1889)

Memoir of Mrs. Julia Eleanor Beaver Lamb.

Another of the good and true souls that lived with us in this mortal life is gone to the blessed long home, and we, by faith, look over there to her and thank God there are many mansions in our Father's home above.

Julia Eleanor Beaver Lamb died in the faith of Christ our Redeemer on the 6th of April 1889, about 1:15 a. m. She was born Jan. 16, 1843, at Hamilton, Ohio. Her childhood and education was at her own home with her father and mother, Mr.and Mrs. Beaver, who were keeping a hotel at Hamilton O. Her father, in 1854, was drowned in sea in the wrecking of the Central America, homeward bound from California. Julia Eleaner Beaver was married to Mr. G. R. Lamb Oct. 16, 1862, in the old home at Hamilton, O. But as the star of empire goes westward, so Mr. and Mrs. G. R. Lamb found it best to leave the old home and a host of friends and on the 1st of May, 1863, started for the West, an entirely new country at that time and especially new to them, since they bad no acquaintance here except their own family, their nearest neighbor being on Turkey Creek, some six miles distant. The family settled on the well-known farm of our esteemed citizen, Mr. G. R. Lamb, which the family now occupies and where the deceased breathed her last; she lived contented and happy although much sickness and many trials fell to the lot of the family.

Mrs. Lamb was a christian; she loved her Lord and Savior. During her last sickness her physician took occasion at times of special relief to call her attention to the fact not to forget giving thanks to God. She would say, "I always thank my Lord for all his help." She joined the associate Reformed church in Nov. 1862 and was taken into the Congregational church at Enterprise by letter in 1882. She led an exemplary christian life and had a special love for the Sunday school.

Her last sickness, phthisis, was of long duration, beginning in the earlier part of October, 1888 and continuing to date of daath, and gave ample time to ripen christian graces. She never murmered nor complained of her sore affliction but patiently suffered to her last. Being asked on the last day of her staying with us if she had peace with God, she answered,"Yes, I have." She was willing to abide by the will of her God in reference to life or death. She was glad to live if it pleased God and willing to die if the Lord so wanted it, and so with peace of heart and tranquil mind she approached death.

She leaves a husband who cared so lovingly to the utmost of his ability to her wants and needs to the last moments of her life, six children, the youngest 7 years of age, and a large number of relatives and friends. May the Lord comfort them. It will be unforgotten, the hours in which the dear husband, children and friends bid the deceased good bye; when one after the other kissed the dying mother for the last time in this life. We bade her good bye as we have other dear friends she going to the state and country of immortality, we remaining here yet awhile to battle with life's ups and downs. And as the good bye is echoing in our ears may we never forget that we are also journeying to the shores of immortality, amongst whose inhabitants, "the spirits of just men made perfect," we may finally greet each other again. J. P. M. (Hamilton, Ohio, papers copy.) (Abilene Reflector, Apr. 18, 1889)

A son of Isaac Lantz, living ten miles north-east of Abilene, on Wednesday of last week, went up to the top of the wind-mill tower to oil the machinery, and the wind caused the fan to turn, striking the boy and knocking him to the ground, a distance of 35 feet. The fall fractured the left femur, the bone protruding from the leg and being driven into the ground three inches. He was also injured internally. Dr. Gish was called in, and under his skillful treatment the young sufferer was made as comfortable as it was possible to make him. On Saturday the young man died from the effects of his injuries. Mrs. Cassandra Lauer, wife of John Lauer, died suddenly on Monday at 12 o'clock, noon. Mr. Lauer was reading a paper from their old home, York, Pa., to her, and words were passing between them in the usual manner of conversation, Mrs. Lauer being able to be about her work all the morning. Mr. L. kept on with his reading but after a while he noticed that his wife ceased to pay attention and upon looking up noticed that she had fell over to one side of the chair. He spoke to her but no answer, and on going to her he found that the spirit had flown from the body to join the countless host before the throne. His wife was dead. Mrs. Lauer was in the 71st year of her age. She was highly respected in this community and her sudden demise will be deeply felt by all. Besides her husband she leaves two daughters, Mrs. A. V. Brillhart and Mrs. Samuel Emig, and many friends to mourn their loss. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at the family residence. (Abilene Reflector, 7-30-1885)
