AUTHORITIES PROBING DEATHS
The body of a 36-year old Hatchechubbee woman who apparently died from a drug overdose was discovered Tuesday near a Hatchechubbee church, Russell County Sheriff's Department officials said..
The woman's body was the second discovered in two days and Russell County Authorities are investigating the two deaths as a possible murder-suicide, investigators said.
Patsy L. Landreau, of Star Route, Box 183, was found dead in her car at 11:50 a.m. Tuesday, investigators said. Her body was discovered in a 1976 Mercury Marquis in the yard of Mt. Sinai Church of Russell County Highway 65, Sherriff office officials said.
Russell County Coroner Lesley Vance said an Alabama Power Co. workman discovered the woman's body. He estimated that she died between 9 p.m. and midnight Monday.
Russell County officials said Mrs. Landreau is believed to have committed suicide but no ruling will be made until crime lab reports are returned from Auburn's state toxicology laboratory.
Investigators said they also believe the woman's death is related to the shooting death Monday of Clarence Edward Gabbard, 49, of Star Route 180, Hatchechubbee.
Gabbard was found dead in his grocery store, Colbert's Grocery, on Russell County Highway 26 about 5:15 Monday. He had received multiple gunshot wounds, investigators said.
Vance said Gabbard was apparently shot with a small caliber handgun in his left shoulder and chest.
Officials said a .22 caliber pistol was found in Mrs. Landreau's purse.
Vance said state crime agents are conducting tests to see if she had recently fired the gun.
