Sunday night, the 18th inst, Mr. Lewis C. Gabbard crossed the beyond. His departure was no surprise as he had been battling with consumption for several years. During a residence of more than 20 years in Berea, or the immediate vicinity, his influence had been felt for the right on all questions pertaining to temperence, good order and the well being of the community. Mr. Gabbard was 61 years of age. He was born in Estill Co KY from which he enlisted in the 8th KY Regt at the beginning of the war. He was assigned to the 4th KY after re-enlistment and served faithfully til the conclusion of peace. Member of Capt. James West Post, GAR, of which he has been a commander. Funeral on Monday at the family residence on Center Street. Burial at Berea Cemetery. Leaves wife, 3 sons and 2 daughters, all live in Berea.

His departure took place Saturday evening the 28th inst. [June]. It was no surprise as he had been a suffered for 13 years. He was 44 years of age, born in Jackson Co KY. He was a member of the Baptist Church, was faithful and met death with composure. The funeral was held in the Baptist Church Sunday afternoon. Brothers Ellia and McMurry officiated. The remains were laid to rest in the Berea Cemetery by members of Berea Lodge No. 282 IOOF. He leaves a wife, one son and two daughters to mourn his loss.

Lewis Cox GABBARD and Elendar B. LAKES were married on 11 March 1867 in Jackson County, Kentucky. Elendar B. LAKES, daughter of Greenberry LAKES and Nancy Jane HARRISON, was born on 10 June 1845 in Kentucky.82 She died on 9 May 1928 at the age of 82 in Berea, Madison County, Kentucky.

Married Lewis Cox Gabbard, 11 Mar 1867, Jackson Co, KY. They were first cousins.
