Publishers of newsletters, books, or other materials relating to genealogy are welcome, as are resellers of any form of used genealogical materials, be they businesses or individuals cleaning bookshelves. Purchases are arranged in private postings between the buyer and the seller rather than on the list. Commercial sellers please limit postings to one a month.   32. HM-CUSTOMS-EXCISE. A mailing list for anyone with a genealogical interest in HM Customs and Excise (HMC&E) and the individuals who served in this, the oldest Department of the British Government, within in the United Kingdom. HMC&E was responsible for the collection of Value Added Tax (VAT), Customs Duties, Excise Duties and other indirect taxes as well as managing the importation and exportation of goods and services into the United Kingdom until it was amalgamated with the Inland Revenue in 2005.   33. HM-CUSTOMS-WATERGUARD. A mailing list for anyone with a genealogical interest in HM Waterguard and the individuals who served in HM Waterguard. The Waterguard has it's roots in the Preventive Water Guard service formed in1809 as the sea-based arm of revenue enforcement in the United Kingdom to combat smuggling. It was reformed in 1923 as the separate department within HM customs & Excise, responsible for the collection of Excise revenue and the detection of prohibited and restricted goods, from the passengers and crew of ships and aircraft, and other incoming travellers to the United Kingdom.
