The Monmouthshire Poll Book 1868 [SoG] shows Abraham Jeremiah of Goytrey
voting in the polling district of Blaenavon, Llanover Upper.
At the time of the 1881 Census Abraham is shown living with his wife and
family at her father's public house, The Carpenters Arms, Penperlleni,
Goytre. He is described as a carpenter.
Following Abraham's death in 1886 Probate was granted at Llandaff on 30
Mar 1887 to Edwin William Gwatkin of Goytre, carpenter. Abraham is also
described as "carpenter".
The following interesting correspondence was contributed by Helen FORDER:
1. June 8th 1880 - - A Welsh harp is ordered for Abram to finish off for
a friend of Mr. Brinley Richards. My Lady wishes you to write the account
out as soon as it is ready and enclose it to my Lady all ready for Post,
that she may see it & then Post it here also please write four Large
Cards of address on the Case in which it is to be
packed and she hopes that you will see it is securely packed as if it is
damaged on the road it would not be paid for. The Gentleman who has
ordered it is a very good Musician and anxious to have a good Welsh harp
and very likely he would write a description of it in some Book, & so
Abram must be very careful that it is on the real Welsh model which he
has always had to Copy & get Gruffydd to try it & string it that he may
know all is right. You must add the expence of making the Case in the
Bill (Wood & Work) the Wood will be paid for to you for the Estate
Account the Work is generally over hours for the Harps and then it goes
to himself - but if taken out of his other time that time must be
deducted from the Monthly Account. My Lady's arrangement with Abram is
that he continues to make Welsh Harps in all his own spare over time &
then if they are sold he has �10.10. 0. for each Harp - strung and
when a case is wanted of course the expence of it is added to the Bill.
My Lady only wishes you to know that she does not give anything
towards these Harps only she encourages Abram to make them & she sees
that he is paid.

- safely packed and secured in a Case - by Abram - with the Gentleman's
address - plainly written and dated - "With Very Great Care" - on all
sides - and trust it will arrive safely - Enclosed is Abram's Bill - for
same & Case - included.

Mr. Abram Jeremiah, harp-maker, containing a cheque for �11 due to him
for a harp which he has sent me. Will you have the kindness to inform me
that the letter has safely come to hand?

Dear Sir, The harp has safely arrived and I enclose a cheque for �11 due
to you, the receipt of which I shall be obliged if you will acknowledge
by return of post. If you should know of a Welsh pibgorn (or hornpipe)
for sale, you will oblige me by informing me of it, as I should like to
have such an instrument in my collection.
