Notes for John JEREMIAH

John appears in the 1851 Census aged 19, living with his father William
and mother at the Castle Inn, Morriston.

In the 1861 Census he is still living with them, aged 28, but he has
acquired a wife Sarah Ann, aged 23.

Admon was granted to John in 1877 in respect of the estate of Benjamin
Jeremiah, late of Santiago in Chile, who died in an earthquake in Coro
Coro, Chile on 16 November 1875. John was said to be an Innkeeper of the
"Welcome to Town" Inn, Morriston and Cousin-German and Guardian of
Benjamin's children Mary Jane, Hannah, and Caroline, all spinsters, and
William, all minors. Admon was renewed on 27 January 1883 to Caroline.

In the 1881 Census John and Sarah Ann are at the Welcome Public House, 40
Woodfield Street, Clase with son John, aged 14 born in Morriston, and
Caroline and William, aged 20 and 17 respectively and both born in Spain.

Philip Thomas, a descendant, has supplied the following additional
information:

"In 1869 JJ was the informant at the death of Robert MONGER the husband
of Harriet nee Rees, Sarah Ann's Aunt. The Mongers had the Bush Inn,
Morriston. JJ was noted as living at Woodfield St.
In 1880 he was Executor of Edward REES's will (SA's Uncle) under a will
dated 14 Jan 1880 "To my niece SAJ of the Welcome Inn, Morriston the
monies due from my Sister Harriet Monger"- (In 1871 Edward was left �55
and an annuity of �7 by his younger sister].

The grave at Llansamlet records "In memory of John Jeremiah, Welcome,
Morriston, who died 5 March 1895 aged 62 "Thy will be done" also Sarah
Anne beloved wife of the above died 1 June 1891 aged 60" "In the midst of
life we are in death"
