The recent history of the Potawatomi begins in the Great Lakes region of North America. The Citizen Band of Oklahoma and the Prairie Band of Kansas is made up of descendants of Potawatomi from the Great Lakes Area. They were in the United Band of Ottawa, Chippewa, and Potawatomi of the Lakes region. They began being moved further and further from their homeland as the White man moved westward the Native Americans were pushed westward also. Into Iowa and then on to Kansas, and into Oklahoma. There are a vast number of people of Potawatomi ancestry along this migratory path of heartbreak and tears and broken lives.

Our many thanks to Kathy Welch Heidel for creating and maintaining the Potawatomi Tribe site from May 1998 until July 1999.  Her contributions are still accessible here, but because the site is now part of the group Nations of the Sac & Fox Agency, the general links have been moved to the Agency page.

For the convenience of returning visitors, we've kept a page of Kathy's Links in her final format.

About Visitors since July 20, 1999

Kathy's page counter read 5,100 before we moved the page to Rootsweb on 20 Jul 1999 and started a new counter.  The new counter read 3706 when the page was incorporated into the Sac & Fox Agency site.
