Trim Castle in Trim, County Meath is a remarkably well-preserved Norman Castle, the largest in Ireland. It has a central keep that stands 70 feet tall and a castle wall complete with watchtowers. This castle provided a fortress to protect "the pale" and its English-controlled territory in the Dublin area from invaders arriving from the northwest. The Town of Trim was a great base to explore the numerous heritage sites and other points of interest that are nearby.
