The Petrus and Hannah (Anna) Talbot Family of South Bend, Indiana: An Analysis of this Irish Family's Migration from Ireland (Hannah) and New York (Petrus) to South Bend Indiana in South Bend St. Joseph Church and Sacred Heart Church Records, Census and other Resources

Peter Talbot appears to have married Anna Talbot on August 11, 1868 in St Joseph County, Indiana according to a marriage license application I obtained from familysearch.org. They were married by Alexis Granger. I believe that Hannah (as she is referred to in the 1870 census) is most likely Anna Talbot, daughter of John and Catherine Talbot who live next door to them in that census year, but more evidence is needed to confirm this.

The objective of this compilation is to try to establish the earliest possible evidence of this family in the United States through all available resources. I would love to hear from anyone who believes that they may be a descendent of this family so that we can work together to find their origins in Ireland and migration trail to the U.S. This will most definitely be a work in progress and all findings I speculate on would have to be proven for accuracy with Ireland and U.S. marriage records, church baptismal records and death records among other genealogical resources. Please use this information with that caveat in mind so that nothing is assumed and no stones are left unturned to assure it's your family and the connection is accurate.

Research Observations and Analysis on the Talbot Family: Peter Talbot clearly dies sometime between January 1, 1877 and June 1, 1880 when the census was taken, although I have yet to find a death record for him. I have not found Hannah beyond the 1920 census, nor have I found her death record at this point. Her son John, his wife Mary and their son Harol appear to be living next to her in the 1900 South Bend Census. It appears that Catherine (sister of Anna?) may have married Phillip Letourneau at Sacred Heart Church in January 1869. Catherine is listed as the daughter of John Talbot of this parish. Of further interest, there is an entry in the 1880 South Bend, St Joseph County Census, District 162 for Peter Talbot, 39 Tailor born in New York, Parents born in Ireland who is listed as being dead. He is listed apart from his widowed wife Hannah who appears on the District 161 census.

Special Note: There is a list of lot owners in the Cedar Grove Cemetery Microfilm 1637531 item 3 that indicates that the "Talbot family" owns lot numbers 152 and 153 in Section B. I'm not certain that these lots are tied to this family but it would be worth pursuing to check it out! There was also a St Joseph Church Communion Class record for a John Harold Talbot on June 19, 1910 that may be more distant connection to this family.
