St. Kevin's Church, Glendalough Monastic Settlement, County Wicklow, Ireland

The Wicklow Mountains provide an idyllic setting for Glendalough Monastic Settlement, a religious center that was founded by Saint Kevin in the 6th century. Beautiful walking trails meander around the ruins of this settlement that was constructed between the 10th and 12th centuries. These ruins include St Kevin's Church (pictured below), the shell of St Kiernan's Church, a Round Tower, St Saviour's Church, St. Mary's Church, Trinity Church, Reefert Church, the Cathedral and the Priest's Home. Glendalough is a remarkably well-preserved site; its beautiful valley, lakeside setting in the heart of the Wicklow Mountains must have given its resident monks lots of inspiration!
