The Rock of Cashel, Ancient Seat of the Kings of Munster, County Tipperary, Ireland

The Rock of Cashel is as impressive on approach as it is to explore. St. Patrick's Cathedral dominates the rock and was in use until Cromwell's forces took their toll in the mid 17th century. The Kings of Munster held sway over this fortress as early as the 4th century, it was their seat of power and important ceremonies were held here. The rock also has a round tower that was constructed around 1101 and Cormac's Chapel, one of the earliest churches in Ireland, constructed around 1127.
