The Town of Kilkenny in County Kilkenny was founded by St Canice in the 6th Century. All that remains of St. Canice's Monastery is a 6th century Round Tower near St Canice's Cathedral, a church built in the 13th century. Among the colorful shops scattered throughout this charming medieval town on the River Nore are a 13th Century Friary The Black Abbey, a 16th Century Merchant's Home, 17th century Shee Alms House, an 18th century Town Hall and Kilkenny Castle that was originally built in the 17th century but has seen several renovations.
