The Medieval Town of Kilkelly in County Kilkelly, Ireland

The Town of Kilkelly was the home to St Canice's Monastery in the 6th century, the Normans in the 12th century and tucked amongst its narrow streets (like the one in this picture) and colorful shops are a plethora of medieval structures providing a host of photographic opportunities. The city of Kilkenny has embarked on a historic project to excavate and preserve what remains of Talbot's Tower and the city wall, essential components to Kilkenny's medieval defenses. Kilkenny was the largest walled town in Ireland according to a Heritage Council publication on the project.
