Irish Families of St Patrick's Church, Huddersfield England with Father's Surname M-N
It appears that many of the names in this record were spelled phonetically. I have tried to group them together in the family groups where they belong, so some may appear out of alphabetical order.
Surname Meehan: I am really unsure of Margaret's mother's surname. The first letter could be a C (Cope) or an E.
Surname Murray: Thomas Murray's mother could be either Mary Gorden or Golden; it appears that both letters were written on top of each other. Thomas and Ann Murray's mother is definitely Mary Gorden.
Regarding the McGuires/ Maguires of Huddersfield: Frank McGuire, a McGuire descendent from Australia whose ancestors were married in Huddersfield identified the following marriage of Michael McGuire to Emma Hoyle on January 7, 1850 in the St Patrick's Church records. Michael was the son of Michael and Ellen McGuire (Nee Lawler) and Emma the daughter of James and Ann Hoyle (nee Laud); all were residents of Huddersfield when the marriage took place. According to him, Michael Senior died in 1849 and wife Emma in 1851. He also identified an earlier marriage in nearby Almondbury (a southeast Suburb of Huddersfield) of Michael Mcguire to Ellen Sulloven on June 27 1822. He has also been doing some analysis of the identified origins in Ireland of the McGuires living in Yorkshire; he like me is trying to determine the specific origins of his line in Ireland. His ancestors Michael and Emma McGuire were residing in Huddersfield on 131 Manchester Street when the 1851 census was conducted. Their son John and Michael's widowed mother Ellen were living with them.
In my Irish research, I have observed a lot of variance in surnames; many of them are written phonetically. There are many Maguires in the St Patrick's Church records that may or not be variants of the McGuire surname and are worthy of taking a second look at them.
