The Patrick Corcoran and Mary Shaw Family of Huddersfield England: An Analysis of this Family in Huddersfield, Patrick's Origins in Ireland and Beyond

The Connaught Counties of Galway, Roscommon, Mayo and Sligo are heavily represented in the Huddersfield England Census Records when the county names are given as a place of birth. The amazing research compiled on the Irish in England by great authors like Donald Macraid, Roger Swift, Donald E Jordan Junior, Sheridan Gilley, Kevin O'Connor, John Belchem, Frank Boyce and L. W. Brady among others seems to support repeated migration trails from certain counties in Ireland to certain places in England.

My objective in this research is to analyze the Corcoran Families in Huddersfield England Census records over the years to see migration pattern trends from certain counties, possible Civil Parishes in Ireland and even with families of the surname itself. I hope to eventually connect them to the Brennans that I am identifying in the Catholic Church Records in both County Mayo and County Roscommon Ireland. This will most definitely be a work in progress and all findings I speculate on would have to be proven for accuracy with GRO of England marriage records, church baptismal records and death records among other genealogical records. Please use this information with that caveat in mind so that nothing is assumed and no stones are left unturned to assure it's your family and the connection is accurate.

Research Analysis:

I have limited information on this family, but I believe I most likely found their marriage record in the Free BMD England Marriage Index and I think that I have found some key connections to Mary Shaw's family (sisters Sarah Shaw (married name possibly Tierney) and Fanny Shaw, who are living with her and Patrick in 1871 and then she is living with Sarah in 1881. She is still listed as married and not widowed, which begs the question where is Patrick if this is her? Is he seeking work elsewhere or on his way abroad with her to follow? It is all speculation, but much more research needs to be done. The marriage record could reveal huge clues as to Patrick's parents and his origins in Ireland and can be obtained from the GRO office in England. I believe that Sarah married John Tierney (whom Mary lived with in 1881) and that Fanny Shaw, her sister married Wlm Gannon. I have found a Wlm Gannon- indexed wrong as Gaunon living on Swallow Street in District 18. There is an Anthony Shaw, Lodger living with them and their 4 kids (Shaw was Mary, Fanny and Sarah's maiden name).

I welcome any and all feedback, corrections- they benefit us all. If you believe that your ancestors might be related to this family please contact me! If we get enough pieces of the puzzle, we may be able to tie some of these Corcoran families together!
