Corcoran Families Identified in the 1851 Huddersfield Civil Parish, Huddersfield Subregistration District, Yorkshire England and Research into their Irish Origins

It is clear that a significant number of the Irish Immigrants in Huddersfield England originated from the Connaught areas of County Mayo, Roscommon, Sligo and Galway. I believe my immigrant Irish Great Grandparents Martin Brannon and Cathrine Corcran were among them in the 1851 Huddersfield Census on Windsor Court of District 4. with her mother Mary Corcran and their daughter Mary who was born in Huddersfield. They are documented as being born in Ireland, but family lore and Catherine's obituary show her to be from County Mayo. A GRO marriage record for this family shows Martin's parents Michael Brannan and Biddy Coffee of County Roscommon and Patrick Corcoran and Mary Gahagan of County Mayo. The record fits our family lore of Martin and Catherine working for passage money to U.S. while in England and a possible daughter Mary that died. The time frame fits and Catherine's death record listed her parents as Patrick and Mary Corcoran. I can't be 100% certain until I find out what became of Mary Corcoran, Martin's mother-in-law, Mary their daughter born in 1851, Patrick Mary's husband and a passenger record which I have been yet unable to find. The same thorough research should be used to sort through the information I present in this section. I will present subsequent records that I believe may be a match for a family in a previous census year. Please use this information with that caveat in mind so that nothing is assumed and no stones are left unturned to assure it's your family and the connection is accurate.

Progress in Districts 1-38 of the 1851 Huddersfield Civil Parish, Huddersfield Sub registration district: I have completed putting findings for Districts 1-11 and 16 on line. I have yet to do any detailed comparison with Brennans in other census years.

Notes: There was a David and Alice Cockin Family (and son Tom) from Yorkshire Huddersfield that was in District 4 that is not included in this compilation because it was clearly Cockin not Corkan or Corkoran. There was a James and Mary Crackan family- visitors from Ireland in District 11 with the Conlon family from Ireland that I have not included in this compilation.

I welcome any and all feedback, data corrections, etc - they benefit us all. This is definitely a work in progress!
