Corcorans in Balla and Manulla Roman Catholic Parish Records, County Mayo, Ireland

I have completed microfilm number 1279209 items 2 and 3 that cover the Diocese of Tuam, Balla and Manulla Parishes. Keep in mind that Balla Civil Parish, Drum Civil Parish and Manulla Civil Parish are all part of this Roman Catholic Parish. The records cover the time frame from 1837 to 1905. The beginning of item three is titled "Balla Marriages Union of Balla-Drum, Roslea and Minolla".

The Corcoran Families I have identified in this Civil Parish are presented under the spouse's surname. If I have been unable to identify the name of the spouse that married a Brennan for one reason or another I will place those records in the "unknown" section of this directory.

I have done my best to correctly transcribe these records, but after five or so hours behind a microfilm reader, the likelihood of mistakes in both interpretation and transcription most certainly increases. I have the microfilm and item numbers on which the records were found so you can confirm the information. In an attempt to minimize download times I have limited the information presented on each family. The records in this section will document Baptisms (B) and Marriages (M). I also have documented all of the baptisms and marriages sponsored/witnessed by Brennans; although these are not included online, they can yield valuable clues such as "circles of friends" and possible townlands that might provide a missing link. If you feel that your family is identified in these pages and would like further details, please feel free to contact me.

After finishing transcription of the first of two items in this Catholic Parish there were relatively few Corcoran family baptisms to record. Despite the fact that there were only 4 different Corcoran families in item 2, there were a variety of Corcorans in the records that sponsored baptisms. The following Corcorans sponsored baptisms of non Corcoran families: Mary Corcoran in 1838, Thomas, Ellen and Bridget Corcoran in 1839, Bridget Corcoran in 1844, John Corcoran in 1869, Pat and Catherine Corcoran in 1878, Bridget Corcoran in 1885, Peter Corcoran in 1888, and Pat Corcoran in 1893. Unfortunately, no Townlands were given in these baptisms. The ones that listed Townlands are included below.

The following Corcorans witnessed marriages or sponsored baptisms in which a Townland name was given or they were documented in some unusual way:

  1. Julia Corcoran sponsored the baptism of Thos, son of Patk Karney and Catherine Reilly on December 24?, 1841 in Balla.
  2. Jno Corcoran sponsored the baptism of Margaret, daughter of Thady Kelly and Bridget McEllin on March 22?, 1845 in Ballyclogher.
  3. Ths Corcoran sponsored the baptism of Patk, son of Michl Donnelly and Marget Dynsy? on May 3, 1847 in the Town of - anovaler? I couldn't find any townlands in Drum, Manulla or Balla Civi Parishes resembling this name.
  4. Peter Corcoran sponsored the baptism of John, son of John Blanke? and Honor Madden on October 28, 1888? in Bilcaria (this may be Ballycarra in Drum Civil Parish).
  5. Reverend J. J. Corcoran sponsored the baptism of Thos Luis Block? October 21, 1899.
