The James Corcoran and Louisa McCabe Family of Liverpool, Lancashire, England: An Analysis of their Migration from Ballyfarnan, County Roscommon Ireland to Liverpool, England in Church, Census and Other Records
My objective in this research is to analyze the Corcoran Families who were born in either County Roscommon or County Mayo, Ireland and migrated to England in the 1800's. In analyzing the England Census records, with the collaboration of other Corcoran researchers, my goal is to uncover migration pattern trends from certain counties, possible Civil Parishes in Ireland and even with families of the surname itself. I hope to eventually connect them to the Corcorans that I am identifying in the Catholic Church Records in both County Mayo and County Roscommon Ireland. This will most definitely be a work in progress and all findings I speculate on would have to be proven for accuracy with GRO of England marriage records, church baptismal records and death records among other genealogical records. Please use this information with that caveat in mind so that nothing is assumed and no stones are left unturned to assure it's your family and the connection is accurate.
Joe Corcoran, A Genealogist researching his Corcoran ancestors from Boyle, Roscommon, and Manchester, England made the connection between the census years for this Corcoran Family. The 1871 Liverpool census record for the James Corcoran and Louisa McCabe Family indicate that they and their two daughters (Caroline and Louisa) were born in County Roscommon and son James in Liverpool, England. There is some discrepancy in both 1881 and 1901 census showing Louisa being from London, but Caroline is from Ireland and James Frances from Liverpool in the 1881 census. The 1891 Census in which Louisa is living with her daughter Louisa Murray and son in law Robert acknowledges her Ireland birth (as well as daughter Caroline who also lives with them along with son James from Liverpool). The 1901 census finds Louisa still living with her daughter and son in Law Robert and Louisa Murray. Joe Corcoran discovered the biggest break in this family line with the 1911 England census showing Caroline Corcoran still living with the Murray family and both her and her sister Louisa Murray being born in Ballyfarnan, County Roscommon, Ireland. Ballyfarnan is a Town in Kilronan Parish, Boyle Poor Law Union, a parish at the far northern tip of County Roscommon.
Research note: Familysearch.org has online records for other Corcorans and McCabes in Ballyfarnon, Roscommon, Ireland such as John Conlon/Ellanor Corcoran and Thomas Davey/Catherine MCCabe, but I have yet to find baptisms of the James Corcoran/Louisa McCabe family. This site bears watching to additions of other Corcoran records.
