The Coffee (Coffey, Coffy) Surname in County Mayo Roman Catholic Parish Records

As you look through the following records that I have compiled from the Roman Catholic Parish Records in County Mayo, keep in mind that the image quality is often so poor that interpretation can be difficult. After spending five or six hours in the dark looking at microfilm, I am sure mistakes have been made. If you identify a record that you believe to be your ancestors, I would suggest that you give the record a second look yourself to confirm the dates and other details. These films can be ordered at a local LDS family history center. Double check the film to order in the LDS Library Catalog. I have observed children from what appears to be the same family, being baptised in different parishes, so a check of neighboring Catholic Parishes might be fruitful.

The Roman Catholic Parish names and boundaries have changed over time. They are often referred to by ancient as well as more modern names and sometimes even by their chapels. To view some of these alternative names, take a look at the County Mayo Records list that I have compiled. I am going to organize these Brennan Families by their spouse's surname. To minimize download times I am limiting the amount of information that I present, if you recognize your family please feel free to contact me for further details.

Kilcommon Erris Civil Parish contains Belmullet, Ballycroy, Kiltane and Kilcommon-Erris Roman Catholic Parishes. These Catholic Parishes are on the same microfilm, 1279205 so I have grouped them together under Belmullet which I have heard it referred to most often. You may also hear of Gweesalia and Bangor-Aughoose periodically associated with this parish as well. I have included Inishboffin, an Island off of County Mayo's west coast in this table as well as it has a separate film in the Family History Center Catalog.

I am beginning my search of the Coffee, Coffey and Coffy Families in County Mayo with the Charlestown Roman Catholic Parish Records. Keep in mind that they will be out of sequence as I have just recently realized my Coffee, Coffey, Coffy Ireland connection and have to go through item one again upon completion of items 2-6 of this film.

Re: Coffee's in Ballinrobe: I wasn't searching for Coffee families when I completed the Ballinrobe 1279209 film, but inadvertantly captured the baptism of Elizabeth Mary, daughter of James and Ellen Coffey on October 17, 1901 (James Teerick and Bridget Walsh Sponsors).
