A Picture of the Approach to Burrishoole Priory, a 15th Century Dominican Abbey that lies just outside the Townland of Newport, County Mayo, Ireland

Mac William Eighter founded Burrishoole Abbey in County Mayo, Ireland in 1469; both Burrishoole Castle and Abbey were subject to significant plundering, the Abbey was garrisoned in the late 16th century, and the occupants of both changed hands several times over the centuries. (Quinn, 1996, Volume 1, Chapter 10, p. 114). The ruins of the Abbey that remain are located just outside of Newport, County Mayo Ireland, are quite impressive and worth a visit. This picture was taken upon approach to Burrishoole Abbey.
