Brennan Families from the Townland of Drumacoo, Kilcolman Civil Parish, County Roscommon, Ireland in the Ballaghaderreen Church, County Roscommon, Ireland Census and Other Records

The Townland of Drumacoo was transferred from County Mayo to County Roscommon, Ireland via a Local Government Act in 1898. Drumacoo was one of 28 different Townlands transferred from Kilcolman Civil Parish in this act. Drumacoo is about 9 km northeast of Ballaghaderren, close to the County Sligo border and only a couple of kilometers from Clogher, County Sligo.

I have found 10 different Brennan Families residing in the Townland of Drumacoo in the Ballaghaderreen records as well as a variety of other records that they sponsored that have origins in Drumacoo. Many records did not give Townlands of residence so this number will likely be higher. There were two Brennan families in the Drumacoo 1901 Edmondstown DED County Roscommon, Ireland Census Records. There was one Brennan family in the 1911 Drumacoo, Edmondstown DED census and there may be others after taking a closer look.

I have identified three different Brennans who occupied parcels in Drumacoo, County Mayo, Ireland when the Griffith's Valuation was conducted in 1857: James Brennan, James Brennan (James), and Patrick Brennan. I will include them at the start of this compilation because of the common nature of these given names I am uncertain to which families they belong. There was also a Patrick Donohoe who held parcel 1p with a land and house who may be the Patrick who married Brigida Brennan in 1855.

Keep in mind in the compilation below that there are a lot of missing pieces and some discrepancies in dates when many of the records were repeated more than once. This page needs a lot of disection to clear up a lot of uncertainties.

The following Brennans sponsored baptisms in records that identified Drumacoo as a place of residence:

  1. Winifred Brennan sponsored the baptism of James, son of John Finegan and Maria Doughan May 1894.
  2. Patrick Brennan sponsored the baptism of Margaret, daughter of Patrick Golden and Mary Feeley (looks like Feeney in 926005 film) May 1868.
  3. James Brennan of Drumacoo witnessed the marriage of Martin Golden and Norah Finnegan of Drumacoo April 1934.
  4. Michael Brennan and Mary Brennan sponsored the baptism of Martin, son of Martin Gara and Catherine Giblin in August 1881.
  5. Domk Brennan sponsored the baptism of Dominick (possibly a twin of Michl) son of Pat Giblin and Mary Finnegan in November 1869.

Please contact me if you believe your Brennan ancestor may have come from the Drumacoo, Roscommon area so that we can compare findings, expand and improve the detail of this compilation.

This is a work in progress and will be added to as I uncover more details about these families.
