Mallow Field Club Journal

No. 2 - 1984

We are glad to present to our readers the second volume of the Mallow Field Club Journal. The entire edition of the first volume, published last year, was sold in a very short time, and the demand far exceeded the numbers available. We, the Editors, wish to thank sincerely all those who supported us, those who contributed articles, photographs or helped in any way to make the first publication so successful.

We present a wide variety of subjects in this second issue. They cover the town and parish of Mallow and approximately a ten mile radius around Mallow. We deal with the archaeology, history, geology, and social life of the area and we are glad to have a large number of photographs of local historical interest.

It is essential to preserve our past, especially nowadays when so many of our ancient monuments, our old manuscripts and rare books are being destroyed. The old stone monuments scattered throughout the countryside have survived for thousands of years and have been given to us to pass on, unharmed, to future generations. Every manuscript, every register, map, old document, or piece of paper with evidence of our past history should be preserved. We ask our readers to inform us of the whereabouts of such documents.

We invite all our readers to join us on our Summer outings to historical places and to ur lectures held during the Winter months. The Committee have already begun the planning of Volume III. If any of our readers has something interesting to offer, e.g. an article, letter, photograph, we shall be delighted to hear from them.
