Knocknagoshel Obituary Mangan/Shanahan

Knocknagoshel Obituary

This obituary was sent to me, 30 May 2000, by Father Kieran O'Shea of the Presbytery of Knocknagoshel, County Kerry, Ireland, in regards to queries of the Mangan family, especially Bishop John Mangan. Unfortunately, this obituary was undated, but in a hand written note from Father O'Shea he writes that Rev. John Mangan died ca 1917. Since Rev. John Mangan presided over his sister's funeral, she had to have died prior to 1917. Also, via a phone conversation with Father O'Shea, he said Mrs. Shanahan and Bishop Mangan's father (Daniel) died ca 1910. Since he is not listed in the obituary, it is possible that Mrs. Shanahan died between 1910-1917.

Funeral of Mrs. Shanahan

Sister of the Most Rev. Dr. Mangan

The death of Mrs. Shanahan, wife of Mr. Edward Shanahan, Clandouglas, and sister of the reverend Bishop, Most Rev. Dr. Mangan, came with feelings of shock to all who knew her. Mrs. Shanahan had been ailing for some time, still no one for a moment imaginined that death would come so soon. In the particular district in which she lived her (?demise) will evoke the warmest feelings of regret. She was a special friend of the poor, and in all their difficulties she was ever at their side.
