History of Prospect Methodist Church, Uniondale, Indiana Contributed by Kathie Osborn-Romaker, SERKMR@aol.com On December 22, 1853 my Great Great Grandfather Levi Osborn sold an acre of his land for $8.00 so that they could build the church. A log church was built on the northeast corner of his land, in Uniondale, the balance of the acre was used as a burying ground. The pews were sawed boards pn a log frame work. Sometimes these benches fell apart during services which were lenghtly but spiritual. Memory paints a picture of this cabin in the woods- people coming to church on foot; on horseback; in big wagons; a few drove oxen teams. Mud boats were not uncommon even in warm weather. These sleds with very wide runners- nine inches- sometimes more. Some of the trails were very low and muddy, even in summer. Much of the forest was yet to be cleared and the drainage problem to be solved. We of this generation can only imagine what it would be like to see this congeration gathering. The ox teams were "anchored" to the trees with chains. I have a complete family history book on the family and descendants of Levi Osborn if anyone is interested, I am willing to help anyone on this subject. I am the great great grandaughter of Levi. you can email me at SERKMR@aol.com or mail me at Kathie Osborn-Romaker T-811 Road 1 Grand Rapids, Ohio 43522
