Shumaker family cemetery project
2003-2010

Shumaker cemetery is located in Wea township on County Rd. 800 South & 450 East on the north east side of the intersection behind the white  barns.  Our project goal will be to resemble these stones that have been removed from their locations and to restore it to the best of our abilities.  Support from the new owner and Matthew Koehler Wea township trustee have given us this wonderful opportunity to shave family history.   We thank them both and all the great volunteers that contribute their time and labor who will help us put back our pioneer history and make it available for future generations.   A special thank you to the local Order of the Arrow troop for all the continued support on this pile of history.  I can't thank you enough!

See our progress links below.    Here is the burial list with updates  Burial list on Find-A-Grave

I am thankful for everyone who came to work with me. This project has taken longer that I thought due to my own health problems.  I really feel we have something good here at the end.

A special thanks to David R. Summers who came from Kokomo, Indiana to work every year with me on this project.  He is descends from Elizabeth (Shumaker) Summers who married John Summers.  Their tombstone were not recorded in the past.  It was his goal to locate these tombstones for his family.  We not only did that, we added several babies to the family tree.

Daniel Shumaker was married to two wives.  Joyce Corns-Weigand descends from Daniel's second wife; Rebecca Chenoweth.  She has researched the Sumaker family.

In her research we were able to connected almost everyone to Daniel Shumaker.  Most of the children are grand or great-grandchildren.  I have added the family lines to Ancestry.com along with the tombstones to help other families connect.  On Ancestry.com this Public Members Tree is called:  "Daniel Shumaker Family Tree Virginia to Tippecanoe County Indiana

As of April 2010,  I have not found where Daniel Shumaker {1790-1847} was born, or who his parents are.  It seems possible George Shumaker {1805-1876} could be his younger brother that migrated with him.   If anyone knows the parents, please email me.  All the names and tombstones are also on the Shumaker Find-A-Grave site linked above.

Daniel was the original land owner who purchased 80 Acres from the Crawfordsville land office on 2 Apr 1829 and another 80 on 10 Apr 1829.  This cemetery is on his original farm.  We have found biographies on some members of Daniels family it show a migration from Rockingham County Virginia to Ross County Ohio. I have them linked below.   Please email me if you can help with Daniel or his first wife Barbara ?.

A list of biographies I have found or others have shared.

Thanks again everyone.
