David Thieme of Troop 303 of the Sagamore District created an Eagle project that really helped restore the safety of the grounds at Old Greenbush cemetery in Lafayette, Indiana.  Grounds had depreciated due to years of neglect to deal with groundhogs and the overgrowth. The animals had burrowed throughout the cemetery creating a very unsafe environment to visitors.

The project goals were to secure  proper permission, obtain a load of fill dirt, map all the holes and divots on the grounds.  Fill the holes, level the ground and reseed with new grass seed.  Also take out two areas of brush overgrowth where groundhogs were nesting under.

David was very successful in carrying out all area of his project with his recruits and they brought all the right equipment.  In the end they probably filled over one hundred holes through out the cemetery, making this a safer grounds once again for the public to walk through.   The removed growth brought back the natural cleaner look to the cemetery.

Greenbush Cemetery Board members and Tippecanoe County Cemetery Restoration Group wish to thank all of you for your wonderful volunteer participation.   You were awesome!

Take a look below at their hard work that day.
