In Memory of Corporal Howard William Dietrich, son of
Charles W. and Mary Frances Boyer Dietrich, who succumbed to
pneumonia, while serving in the trenches in Vittle, France. He
was born in South Bend, July 14, 1896, and entered service June
28, 1917, in Grand Forks, North Dakota. He was sent to Camp
Robinson, Wisconsin; assigned to Headquarters Company, 1st Field
Artillery Brigade; and sailed overseas November 1, 1917. He
died September 27, 1918. Howard is buried in American Cemetery
No. 258, Vittle, Vosges, France, and was cited by Commander of
the First Division for gallantry in action. There is a headstone
in the Dietrich Family Plot in Riverview Cemetery, in honor of
Howard.
