Spiritualism.       

Mrs. E. T. Trego, a trance and inspirational speaker, is to give a free lecture in the Universalist Church, this evening, at 7:30 o'clock. Psychometric reading, tests, etc., will be given after the lecture.

Trotting Race---Purse $200.       

There is to be a trotting race at the Driving Park, at 2 o'clock to-morrow, for a purse of $200--first money, $100; second $60; third, $40; best three in five to harness.  The following horses will compete:  Black Belle, G. T. Milburn, Mishawaka; Grey Ira, Ira M. Nye, South Bend; Lady Kellogg, G. C. McAllister, Gull Lake, Mich.; Belle Gray, John Bichley, Elkhart, Ind.; Patchen Maid, Geo. Wolfe, Topeka, Kas.  There will also be a half-mile running race.  Admission 25 cents; ladies free.

Large Hogs.       

Esq. W. H. Robertson, of Union township, killed two Chester Whites, last week, which weighed respectively, when dressed, 589 and 312 pounds.  They were bought by Myers & George, proprietors of the meat market near Buffum's grocery.  Esq. Robertson goes his length on the Chester White hogs, and many of our farmers agree with him that it is the most profitable breed.

City vs. David Mann; intoxication.  Verdict guilty, and fine imposed of $2 and costs--$9.
City vs. John Duey; disturbing the peace.  Verdict guilty, and the fine imposed $1 and costs--5.70.
City vs. Louis Peronga; intoxication.  Verdict guilty, and fine imposed of $1and costs--$9.90.

B. F. Dunn et. al. vs. Christopher Muessel; appeal from Board of Commissioners.  Dismissed at costs of petitioners.

Marian N. Remington vs. Charles W. Remington; divorce.  Granted.

Herman Kemps vs. Bertha Schonberg; complaint to have marriage declared void.  Dismissed.

Henry Peashway vs. John Rodgers, et. al.; replevin.  Dismissed.

State vs. Jacob Miller; surety of the peace.  Prisoner dismissed on furnishing $50 bail for future good behavior.

City vs. Agnes J. Barnett; appeal from City Judge.  Dismissed by plaintiff.

Henry Berkheiser vs. Emma R. Berkheiser; divorce.  Granted.  Plaintiff to have care and custody of children until further ordered.  (NOTE:  In case you were wondering, these are my great-great grandparents. Rick)

Joseph R. Conover vs. Studebaker Bros., action for damages.  Verdict for defendant.

State vs. Jacob Gill, et. al.; on recognizance.  Judgment on default for $200.00.

Tracey Cole vs. A. Smith; account.  Dismissed by plaintiff.

Jennie Thomas vs. Barney Thomas; divorce.  Granted.  Plaintiff's name changed to Meddows, and child given to mother.

Sylvia C. Marsh, in the matter of the adoption of child--Luella Moran.  Petition filed; father of child appeared in open Court and consented, and the child adopted by the name of Luella Marsh.

Andrew Johnson, Ex-President of the United States, favors the election of United States Senators by the people direct, instead of by their representatives.  The people don't favor the election of Andrew Johnson to the Senate, though.
