The Piechorowski Family, the Descendants of Jan / John

 

  Jan - Leon - Emelia - 1890 (Added 12/08/2006)

Jan Piechorowski was born in 1848 in Brzyskorzystew, Powiat Zinnski, Poland and was baptized in St Katherine of Alexandria Church. In 1874 he will marry Amelia Chmielewski (the daughter of the farmer from Chraplewo) in the church at Slupy.   In 1882 following political activism by his father Andrew they will emigrate to America. His older brother Joseph (An Officer in the Prussian Army) and his wife Josephine will accompany the family to America.    Andrew / Jan will will purchase a 400 acre farm in Terre Coupe, Indiana in July of that and it will partially remain in the family to this day. We assume friction in the family due to Joseph's German sentiments.   Jan and Amelia will bear 12 children 9 will survive. Jan will pass in 1926 and Amelia will follow in 1938.


Leon Piechorowski is the first family member born in the United States 1883 in the "Log Cabin / farm in Terre Coupee, Indiana". In 1909 he marries Konstancya Janowiak at St. Adalberts Church. They reside on Jackson street and he is a cabinet maker at Singers. In 1920 he prematurely dies of a burst appendix. They will bear 6 children, all of whom including my father Frank survive. His wife will remarry into the Piasecki family bear 6 more children and die of the same malady in 1936.

The Julius Balcerzak and Anna Piechorowska Family   Julius Balcerzak was born January 7, 1888 near Znin, Poland the son of Bartholmew and Rozalia Lygocka Balcerzak. He will marry Anna Piechorowska the daughter of Jan and Emelia Chmielewski Piechorowski on June 15, 1915 at St Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church , Terre Coupe, Indiana.   Four children will be born to this union three of whom will live to adulthood; Alice, Irene and Stanley.   The family lived in the South Bend area all their lives, they maintained a home at 501 Meade St. and were parishioners of St Adalbert's Catholic Church. Anna will pass at the age of 86 in the Carlyle Nursing Home in 1980 and Julius will follow in the same Nursing facility at the age of 96.

The Stanley & Cecelia L (Rodick) Balcerzak Family  

Stanley was born October 17, 1919 to Julius & Anna (Piechorowska)  Balcerzak in South Bend. Stanley will begin his career at Studebaker and play on their 1938 Championship team. He will marry the former Cecelia L Rodick in Danville, Ind. on September 20, 1941 and will serve with the Merchant Marine during WWII. Upon his return he will return to Studebakers and end his career  at Allied Signal Corporation. Two children will be born to this union; Carol and Darlene.   Cecelia will pass in 1989 and Stanley will follow in 1993.

The Lloyd C. & Irene R (Balcerzak) Henderson  

Lloyd Carrol Henderson was born on July 18, 1920 in Leroy, MN the son of Clyde and Louise Henderson of Rochester MN. . On December 28, 1944 in Newburn, NC (Cherry Point Marine Base) he will marry the former Irene Rita Balcerzak the daughter of Julius B &  Anna J (Piechorowska) Balcerzak of South Bend, IN.   Following his duty with the Marine Corp. the couple will reside in South Bend and two children will be born to the union; Gregory and Charles. Irene will pass in 1991 and Lloyd will follow in 1996

The Ralph A. Dixon and Eleanor Piechorowska Family  

Ralph Dixon was born in Remington, Indiana October 13, 1918 to Pearly Dixon and Martha Nola Kyle. He marries Eleanor Piechorowska October 25, 1941 at St. Adalberts Church in South Bend. Two children will be born to this union, Ralph in 1942 and Phillip in 1944. The Henry Siderits and Irene Piechorowska Family  

Henry Siderits was born July 14, 1911 in South Bend Indiana the son of Edward Siderits and Paulina Bartog Forbusch of Stegersbach, Austria. He marries Irene Piechorowska November 23, 1932 in St Adalberts Church. Two sons are born to this union, Ronald in 1933 and Howard in 1934. The William Gum and Clarie Piechorowska Family 1943  

William Gum was born September 22, 1922 in Menard, County IL. to William and Eunice Cunningham. He marries Clarie Piechorowska September 18, 1943 at Camp McCow,  Wi Chapel 9.   The union will give birth to six children who survive to adulthood; Roger, Billy, Mary, Thomas, Patty Jo, and David. Clarie is currently in retirement in Petersburg, IL   


Stanley Piechorowski was the last child born in Bryskorzystew, Poland in 1880. in 1905 he marries Joanna Gadasz who dies in childbirth later that year. The male child Miecislaus dies a few days after his mother. Stanley later marries Wladyslawa Nowaczyk in 1910 and bear four children all of whom survive to adulthood. His daughter Adeline Connie Piechorowska Holvoet resides on the West Side of South Bend to this day.      


Stanley will marry Wladyslawa Nowaczyk in 1910. They will have four children who survive to adulthood, MaryAnna, Bert, Dorothy and Adeline Connie. In 1930 Stanley will pass of heart failure. Wladyslawa will marry Anthony Andrzejewski in 1931 and will pass in 1977.

Stanley Piechorowski's Daughter (Ludwik) - updated 11/08/2005

The George O. and Adeline C. (Piechorowski) Holvoet Family (added 12/23/2005)

George Oscar Holvoet was born April 20, 1925, the son of Maurice Irving and Marie L (Naessens) Holvoet of Wevelgem, Belgium. On October 09, 1947 he will marry the former Adeline Connie Piechorowski the daughter of Stanislaus (Stanley) and Wladyslawa (Nowaczyk) Piechorowski in St Adalberts Roman Catholic Church in South Bend. Four children will be born to this union; Lonnie Marie, George, Gary David and Christopher Steven.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in Pearl Harbor as a boatswain's mate during World War II. After his honorable discharge in 1946 he joined the South Bend Fire Department where he retired as a captain after 36 years of service. After the fire department assumed ambulance duties, George was one of the first certified EMTs. He was one of the first 14 firemen who was a certified life-saver trained for river rescues. George was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Adalbert Church. He loved fishing, country and western music, and was an avid Notre Dame and Purdue football fan. George enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was a person who could light up a room.

George will pass on October 14, 2004 of natural causes and rests in St. Josephs Cemetery. Adeline survives living in South Bend.


The Ludwik Piechorowski and Rozalina Rozmarynowski Family

Ludwik Piechorowski was the 9th child of Jan and Emelia Piechorowski, the third to be born on the farm in Terre Coupee, July 3, 1888. On September 6, 1926 he will  marry Rozalia Rozmarynowska the widow of  Ladislaw Mackowski. The marriage will  issue a daughter Louise Evelyn in addition to step children of Rozalia, Monica and Paul Mackowski. In the 1930’s Uncle Louie will take in the young son of his deceased brother Leon. My father Frank A. Piechorowski and will become a surrogate father during the depths of the depression. I remember him, he was a good man, may he rest in peace. Aunt Rozalia will pass in 1965 and Uncle Louie will follow in 1972. Louise will marry Chester C. Szczypiorski in 1947 (see Szczypiorski Family)

Frank and Evelyn Piechorowski 1939   Frank Piechorowski was born in 1916 the only son of Leon and Constantia. Both parents will die early in life of and Frank will spend part of his early manhood at Uncle Ludwig's farm in Terre Coupee and the CCC Camps. Frank was a very good baseball player and while in CC camps he was offered a scholarship to play at St Joseph's in Rensselaer, Indiana. He had finished eight grade and quit to help support his mother and thought he was not smart enough to survive college. Although the priest assured him to the contrary, he declined and married Evelyn in 1939. He spent his life at Oliver Corporation and was a fine first line supervisor. He passed in 1985 of a heart attack and Evelyn followed him in 2004.   He was my best friend and I am proud to this day to be "Little Jimmy, Frankie's Boy" 

 


Jim Piechorowski and Sharon Metzler   Jim Piechorowski is the only son of Frank and Evelyn born September 25, 1942. He lives his early life in South Bend, attending Holy Cross elementary, and later Washington Clay High School following the families move to the Granger area. He will attend Indiana University Under and Post Graduate and spend his career with Miles and later Bayer AG. He marries Sharon Metzler in 1987 and will soon retire to a life of professional do-gooding. God blessed him with two intelligent children and a forgiving wife...   Life is Good!!!      Picture... The Julius  Piechorowski and Wladyslawa “Lottie” Sroda Family

Julian "Julius"  Piechorowski was born July 04, 1901 the last child of Jan and Emelia Piechorowski in Terre Coupee, Indiana. On November 10, 1926 he will marry Wladyslawa “Lottie” Sroda the daughter of Valentine and Nahomerine Sroda in South Bend, Indiana

The family will reside on Huron Street in South Bend, attend St Adalberts Church. Four children will be born to the union all of whom will survive to adulthood; Joan, Eugene,Patrica Jean and Mary Ann.

Julius was employed and retired from Studebaker Corporation prior to his passing on January 15, 1981 in South Bend following a brief illness. Lottie, was employed by Robertsons Department store in South Bend,she will preceed Julius, following an extended illness in 1977.

Joan M Piechorowski   Joan Piechorowski was born December 19, 1931 the daughter of Julius and Lottie Sroda Piechorowski in South Bend Indiana.  Joan was a 1952 graduate of Washington High School where she participated in Glee Club, Yell Club, and in the school play "Everyman". She was employed by the University of Notre Dame all of her life.   She will pass in the Meridian Nursing Home Feburary 4, 1991.

Eugene Piechorowski born March 21, 1935 is the only son Julius and Lottie Piechorowski. On July 26, 1958 he will marry Anna Nancy Coquillard At St. Josephs Catholic Church in South Bend, Indiana . Four children will be born to this union who survive to adulthood; Patricia, Richard, Steven and Dennis.

Eugene is employed by the Ford Motor Company in Temperance, Michigan as a tool and tie repairman. He will pass March 29, 1988 in St. Petersburg, Florida of an apparent heart attack. He is survived by his wife Nancy.

The Dennis Piechorowski and Laureen Michalski Family

Dennis Piechorowski was born about 1965 in Temperance, Michigan to Eugene and Nancy Piechorowski. About 1988 he will marry Laureen Michalski. Three Children hve been born to this union Shelby Marie, Karlie Ann, Nathan Gene.

They live a happy and prosperous life in Monroe Michigan.

The Edward J Dudzinski and Patricia Jean Piechorowski Family

Edward J. Dudzinski was born about 1922 to 1925 in North Liberty, Indiana to  Joseph Dudzinski and Mary Agnes Labowicz of Lublin, Poland. In 1947 he will graduate from the South Bend Police Training Course along with fourteen other recruits of that year. On September 4, 1951 he will marry Patricia Jean Piechorowski the daughter of Julius and Lottie Sroda Piechorowski in St Adalberts Church.

They will live a Happy and Prosperous life together and currently reside on Elderberry Lane in  retirement.

The James Paluszewski Palus and Mary Ann Piechorowski Family  

James Paluszewski Palus was born abt 1931-1933 to Stanley and Mary (Roberts) Paluszewski in South Bend. James will attend and graduate from Central High School. He will marry  Mary Ann Piechorowski the daughter of Julius and Lottie (Sroda) Piechorowski on April 19, 1952 in St. Adalbert's Church, South Bend, Indiana. Mary Ann was a 1952 graduate of Washington High School. They live a  happy and prosperous life in retirement on Elderberry Lane in South Bend.  


The Stanislaus Tarwacki and Frances Piechorowska Family

Stanislaus Tarwacki was born April 06, 1884 in Krolewo Plonski, Warsawa, Russian Poland to John and Anna Gorka Tarwcki . He will marry Frances Piechorowska the Daughter of Jan and Emelia Chmielewski Piechorowski on April 29, 1913 in St Hedwig Church, South Bend, Indiana.

They will reside in the South Bend area all their lives, maintaining a home on Cleveland Street and attending St Hedwig Church. Stanley was a self employed salesmen since 1929 until he retired.

Three children will be born to the marriage all of whom will survive to adulthood; Florence, Ted and Jeanette.

Frances will pass in 1960 following a three day illness and Stanley will follow in 1975.

The Julian & Stanislawa / Estella (Piechorowska) Karaszewski Family  

Julian was born May 08, 1875 in Golina, Russian,  Poland the son of Mr. & Mrs. John Karaszewski. He emigrates to this country in 1893 with his parents and settles in Pittsburgh, PA. where he gains citizenship. The family moves to  St. Joseph County, Indiana about 1900 . He is employed as a cabinet maker at Singer.   He will marry the former Stanislawa (Stella) Piechorowska the daughter of Jan & Emelia (Chmielewska) Piechorowski of Brzyskorzystew, Prussian, Poland, October 24, 1900 in St Hedwig Catholic Church, South Bend, Indiana. 

Shortly after the marriage the couple returned to Poland where the Karaszewski family were property owners / gentry. Eugenia was born in Golina in 1905. Oral history tells us that Stella did not like Poland and was treated indifferently by the Polish family due to her humble origins. In 1906 Julian renounced any claim to the family property and returned to the USA with the woman that he loved.

The couple will reside at  Walnut and Olive Street's between 1906 and 1924. Julian is an organizer of the John P. Rozplochowski Furniture store and is a director of the business for 15 years. He is also a member of the ZB Falcon Lodge and Woodsmen of America. The family attends St. Adalberts Catholic Church.   Nine children will be born to this union; Estella, Stanley, Eugenia, Joseph J, Alexander, Phyllis, John C, Benjamin, Thaddeus D.   Julian will pass in 1944 and Stella will follow in 1955. They rest in St. Joseph's Polish Catholic Cemetery.

John C & Helen (Tarasut) Karaszewski Family  

John C.  was born February 24, 1914 the son of Julius and Estella (Piechorowska) Karaszewski of this city. On May 31, 1941 he will marry the former Helen Tarasut the daughter of John and Flora Almason in East Chicago, IN.   He will spend his career at Studebaker's and later Exel industries in Elkhart. The 1953 photo of John above describes him as an electrical foreman at Studebaker. I had not seen his photo in over 50 years and was amassed how he resembled my father. After the closing of Studebaker in 1963 the family will move to Elkhart, attend St. Vincent's Church, John will retire from Exel in 1979.   Two children will be born to this union Terry and Elaine. John will pass in 1999 and Helen  survives and resides with her daughter Elaine in Granger.

The Terry J & Joyce Ann (Bokor) Karaszewski Family  

Terry was born April 18, 1942 the only son of John C and Helen Tarasut in East Chicago,  Indiana. I remember playing with Terry as a child, when our families would visit and we still see him and Elaine socially today. On May 26,1962, he will marry the former Joyce Ann Bokor, the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Alexander Bokor in St. John the Baptist Church, South Bend. The bride attended Central High School in South Bend and the groom St. Josephs.   Three children will be born to this union; Dawn, Kirk and Terri. Terry will hold a number of positions in the RV industry and will form his own business, the River Light Company. He is now employed in the Healthcare industry and is a committed member of St Andrews Greek Orthodox Church in South Bend .

The James Alan  & Elaine Karen (Karazewski) Kieft Family  

Elaine Karen was born January 11, 1955 in East Chicago, Indiana the daughter of John C. and Helen (Tarasut) Karaszewski. The family will relocate to South Bend where John will make his career at Studebaker's and later Exel industries in Elkhart. Elaine will make her mark in the Healthcare Industry and in early 2001 will adopt her precious daughter Elena Bhagyasree Karaszewski who will subsequently embrace and be baptized into the Orthodox faith at St Andrew's, October 7 , 2001. She will unite in with her soul mate Jim, a friend of prior years in 2005 and they will marry at St.  Andrews on October 28, 2006. The Kieft family resides in South Bend.

The Stanley & Helen (Rybicki) Karaszewski Family

Stanley was born August 28, 1902 in South Bend, Indiana the first son of Julian & Stella (Piechorowski) Karaszewski. He will spend the first years of his life in Golina, Poland and will return with his parents and sister Eugenia in 1906. The family will reside on Olive Street and he will be educated and attend St. Adalbert’s Catholic Church.

 On February 20, 1928 he will marry the former Helen Rybicki the daughter (April 2, 1901) of Walter & Franciszka (Rozplochowski) Rybicki at St. Adalbert’s Church. Stanley will spend his career as a manager of the Rozplochowski Furniture Store on Western Avenue and Helen will own and manage the former Quality Shop and later retire from Robertson’s Department Store in South Bend. The couple will reside at 2814 Humboldt Street. Two children will be born to this union Jeanette (Larry Landy) and Francis (David Arpasi).

 Stanley will pass in 1966 and Helen will follow in 1988. They rest together at St. Josephs Catholic Cemetery.

The Larry and Jeanette "Jinx" (Karaszewski) Landy Family   Jeanette was born November 05, 1935 in South Bend the second daughter of Stanley & Helen Frances (Rybicki) Karaszewski. The family resided at 2814 Humboldt and Stanley was a Manager at the Rozplochowski Furniture Store.   On November 1, 1969 she will marry Larry Landy in South Bend, Indiana. A daughter Laura Helen will be born to this union and she in turn will provide Larry and Jinx with their first grandson "The Boss !!"    The Landy's  are living a happy retirement in the Granger area and are active in the affairs of St Pius Church.
